ASURION SUX! NO LONGER CARRIES Moto DROID!

You gotta keep holding out. I dropped my d1 in the water and fried it. Asurion tried to give me the same deal so i kept calling back and every time i would remind them how those other two phones weren't even close. Long story short i ended up getting it replaced with an incredible. Not a bad deal i thought. I have since gotten a dx and gave the dinc to my wife. Good luck!!!

Dropped my droid in the toilet popped out of the holster. Fried phone called Asurion told out of stock. Gave me the opportunity to get a Devour or a Droid Eris. I said no so they put me on a 2 to 20 day waiting list for more stock to come in. Lady at Asurion said that these are the phones that Verizon recommends. Not happy with Asurion at all they don't seem to be fair

Call them out! Write them and get the full scope. Don't wait until your phone is broken to find out that they are going to screw you. I sent them an email for clarification.

I wrote Asurion, here is their response "Dear Mr. xxxxx, Thank you again for the email inquiry. We are offering the HTC Droid Eris, or the LG Ally, or the Motorola Devour as a comp model for the Motorola Droid. However, by the time you filed the claim the regular Motorola Droid may be available, or there may be another option for you. I can not say for sure if the Droid will be available, or advise of the other option until you are ready to file your claim. I hope this answers your question. If you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at 1 866 397 6496."

That being said can anyone recommend a good cell phone insurance???

Looks like the trails leads back to Verizon at least the couple cell phone insurance companies I checked. They deferred back to the cell phone company as to which model would be used as the replacement model.

They've got so many of us by the sacks that they don't care if a few of us drop our coverage because they don't offer a fair replacement model. I bet that most of the people making claims don't care about what they get and are happy with the crap they are offering. Once again those of us that understand that we are being taken advantage of are in the minority.

Of course Verizon is fully in control of these replacement options. If we all drop our coverage today just think of how much money they have already made. They couldn't care less. I intend to drop my coverage and invest the savings in my next phone. I had hoped that their replacement options were temporary but it does not seem that way. And fortunately I've never needed to file a claim for any phone I've owned, and I sure don't feel like going through all the aggravation of being upset if I did. I doubt I will ever purchase the insurance coverage again.

I remember hearing talks about being offered the Incredible or X, but it seems to be no longer the case? My headphone jack is getting wonky, and my keys are coming off, but there is no way I'm taking a worse model

if i had to get a phone from them it would be a droid! i pay insurance for a DROID nothing else, i dont care if it has to get nasty im not going to take a phone that isnt even close in comparison!

I find this hard to believe…..I have a feeling there is something more to this.

Dont care weather u believe it or not...THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED! Nothing more to the story....PERIOD!

My experience with Assurion is that there is wide variation in the replacement devices that they will send you. I have had both good and bad replacement deals from them when they drop a particular device from their inventory. Obviously, we would like them to replace a Droid 1 with a Droid 2 as there really is nothing at Verizon that is comparable to the Droid 1 either up or down the scale. I would definitely not take the Eris. I would think that the best arguement that you would have in favor of getting a Droid 2 replacement is that you require that the replacement have a hard keyboard.

Hey guys,

you must be persistent. this past Thursday i would not let the woman off the phone until i got a replacement droid. She offered two comparable models i was not biting. i said just what caseyc said, "paid for droid im getting droid". she gave me the song and dance about not offering them anymore out of stock then some persistance, i got, it would be 7 days, down to three days, i was not budging if it took all night, she wanted me off the phone so i took the 3 to 7 day droid 1 replacement i filed the claim at about 10:30pm thursday night, 6am friday i got email they found one. get this free overnight shipping, when i get home today my package will be there, do not give in, most don't know the difference and are happy they are getting a new phone. i belive they have a few set aside for us pains in the aresses. as for replacements droid x or 2 that would only be for warrenty from verizon.

I feel SOMEWHAT Vindicated!

Got a refurbished Moto Droid from assurian, everything worked fine until I went to use the headphone jack. It was loose, and would cause the headphone to go in and out. I called a few days later to have them send me another one, and I was told they were now out of stock or refurbs and new droids and will no longer be getting anymore in! They then wanted to charge me ANOTHER 89.00 for a new claim! After 20 minutes of aarguing i was told as a "one time courtesey" I would be sent a HTC DESIRE!?! I tried to explain to the rep that that was an ATT phone and that the incredible was the comparible verizon phone to upgrade me too. She insisted the only phone was the DESIRE! After 45 minutes of talking to a supervisor, he informed me that the rep must have been mistaken....the phone they were going to send me was a DEVOUR! After trying to argue, that this was a DOWNGRADE for almost 45 minutes. I ran the the local VZW corp store. I explained the story to the rep. He was great...call assurian himeself to help settle the problem. And he was told the same thing. The VZW store just gave me a new droid from their stock without a problem.
So anyone out there making a claim with Assurian for the Droid, make sure that they will not be sending you the DEVOUR or DESIRE! I Assume if enough people push for it, you can get an Incredible or Droid 2(after release).

In the long run...I did recieve a brand new Droid thru VZW. I disputed the $89 charge from Asurion on my American Express card. I received notification today that AMEX found in my favor and credited the the charge back to me. I'm just holding onto my Insurance a little longer. HOPEFULLy they're start using the Droid 2 as a replacement.

That is an awful lot of effort for something that should have been an easy process. I still have my original Droid and it is in good working order, but I am concerned about your experience and the experience that others have reported. I refuse to use a device that doesn't have a hard keyboard, so trying to force Droid owners to another device that doesn't have a keyboard seems completely dishonest. Did that issue every come up in your discussions with Assurion, and, if so, do you remember their response?

gmmurphy:

Can you comment further on your last statement: "as for replacements droid x or 2 that would only be for warrenty from verizon." I am not clear on why that would be.

How aboubt complaining to your states Insurance Dept?

Years ago I worked for and Insurance Company in New York. Whenever someone felt that they were being done wrong by the insurance company, all you had to do was file a complaint with the NYS Insurance Dept. If that company got several complaints in a certain time frame that went unresolved, they were hit with fines. Many time my bosses would authorized me to pay a claim that was originally denied just to avoid the hassel of dealing with the Insurance Board.
Is Asurion any different then any other Insurance company? If so, everyone should start making complaints to their states insurance board or at least Better Business and Consumer affairs. Im sure that will get the ball rolling for them start giving a comparible model.
