Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

If I install this will I be able to afterward use the fxz file to get back to 5.5.886? Just in case this throws off the upgrade path since not all bionics received this yet. Not sure since itchanges radio files etc... I have only used foreverroot and ota updates.

Someplace in this thread has it, and DROID Life has it.

This update was absolutely incredible! The phone is actually a lot faster (I thought the first OTA made it slower), the battery life is a huge improvement and 4G data is just about flawless.

What kind of voodoo magic did Motorola work to make this happen?

I'm going to be updating the OP to include links to 4ever root and the actual 901 update.

Just give me a few minutes.

I'm not sure if anyone has TRIED to fxz back to .886. But I'm pretty sure that it would be a disaster.
This update has made major changes to the radio kernel.
Consequently, if you do fxz back to stock, I'm sure that your system would either not boot up, OR be such a cluster that you wouldn't be able to progress to ANY update.

In spite of that, this IS an OTA. Whether or not it was a 'mistake' is irrelevant. Verizon sent this over their network; therefore, it will be supported by future updates. Since the update has been captured from the cache and not altered, it should be safe to update in the STOCK RECOVERY, this shouldn't matter as I think there are commands in this phones stock recovery that are not supported in CMW (probably just renamed on this phone).

Short:
CANNOT FXZ back to .886.
WILL be supported in future updates. (I'm not the Verizon CEO so I can't promise this.)

The few people that I know of that have rolled back using a variety of methods have all informed me of complete and utter disaster. Long story short, If you install this update, you better be ready to sit on it for a while without installing custom roms or anything along those lines that may require restoring.

If you have issues post update, come here first before trying anything else. There are many of us on here that are well experienced in troubleshooting and we will most likely find a fix that doesn't involve flashing back to previous versions.

My experience with this update has been good for the most part. After flashing my way back to stock, checking for root, then updating to 894, checking for root again I ran the 901 update. On the downside it worked my 4ever root so I'm stock 901 :( On the plus side no more data drops in 3G with no drops to 1X ( no 4G where I live yet ). Transitions from 3g to wifi and back have been practically seamless. My bionic seems faster than out if the box, oh and did I mention battery life? Battery life has been awesome, I've had this phone off the charger for just over 12 hours now and im barely under 50% with the extended battery and I've been all over this phone playing games, on the internet, a few phone calls, and Droid forums app and xda app and downloading stuff from the market. So minus the whole losing root and some extra bloat I am overall very pleased with 901. Just keep in mind, once you take the update there is no turning back the clock on your phone to previous builds at this point, it has been total disaster for those who attempted it :(
So be prepared to sit on this awhile if you do. Personally with my phone running like this I think I can handle it.
Sorry for the long winded post I just wanted to share my experience with the update.

Pure win so far.

I went from 20+ drops a day from 4g to 3g to no g at home and office (both right on fringe of 4g) to now solid 4g and only one drop.

Phone feels snappier too. Battery seem better but hard to tell since I was only on 4g about half the time before and now am on 4g 100% of the time.

2 huge thumbs up so far.

Still not locking on 4g in my house....Starts up in 4g...next minute 1x....next minute 3g....Then after a bit back to 4g If I toggle airplane mode it will bring back 4g and then it starts all over again. Same as pre update. Not sure how things go once Im traveling..I will be out and about today and will let everyone know what I find out.
