Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

After 2 days with this "accidental" Update....

So i downloaded and flashed this a few days ago, even though most of my issues were already fixed when 5.5.893 was released. I couldn't stop myself. I find this update to be very stable and connection has never been better, however there is one major problem - battery life... Where 5.5.893 helped this tremendously, this new update has taken 5 steps back. Just as an example, i have had my phone unplugged for 3 hours and have not used it for anything yet but i only have 60% battery left. Battery Management is stating that the Android OS is has been using up 62% of the battery! This was never an issue on 5.5.893. In fact i would have 90% if still on that version. Anyone else having this issue? Thoughts on this latest update? Any way to go back to 5.5.893 if necessary?

i also never had any problems with .893, so after reading your post i am just going to wait until i get an official update from moto...battery life is very important to me since i have less problems with data drops and what not

Sounds like something an FDR would fix. Fully charge your phone and then perform an FDR, after that drain it completely and then fully charge again. That should fix your problem.

If you're rooted, another thing you can do is try this app, it's always been really successful for me

Ok, when I first got the .893 update I never lost the superuser app so I thought I had retained root, but unfortunately I'm not. Titanium backup can't get root access anymore. My question is is there a way to forever root .893 yet?

Yes run the forever root program or insert the proper code.

I have been off the charger for 4-1/2 hours battery is at 80% Android OS used 18%. I would try nateohio's suggestion.

I appear to be running about the same as you. In fact this update has given me the best battery life yet. Any other update / rom I ran I could use the battery as a stop watch. Maybe he should run a battery calibration and see if that helps.

Thanks, i was really hoping to avoid doing a factory reset, and unfortunately i didn't do forever root when updating to 5.5.893 so i'm no longer rooted. I didn't have any problem with this before 5.9.901... any idea what caused this to happen and is there any other possible workaround?

Since you don't have root, not really. But I have heard that the new version if the market (3.4.4) is very good about restoring apps after a fdr

As Farr as what causes it, I think its easy to compare it to a windows registry getting bogged up after a while. An FDR will get rid of the unnecessary entries and will clean up the performance of the device

Hello all,

Thanks for all the info you guys have shared on here--it's invaluable!

I'm a relative noob at this stuff--I'm trying to load the 901 update, so I've put the downloaded folder it on the root of the SD card, booted into stock recovery, and after following the directions, I'm stumped as to which file I should choose to install the update from. Which file/folder in the folder "Blur_version" should I select?

Thanks!

None of them. You should not have unzipped the update file. Put it on the SD card still zipped, then you select it.

Hmmm..when I downloaded it onto my mac from the DL mirror link, it was already unzipped...

dancedroidThat's what you get for owning an apple product! dancedroid

Maybe you should get an iPhone, that will behave better with your Mac.
