Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

My experience with this update has been good for the most part. After flashing my way back to stock, checking for root, then updating to 894, checking for root again I ran the 901 update. On the downside it worked my 4ever root so I'm stock 901 :( On the plus side no more data drops in 3G with no drops to 1X ( no 4G where I live yet ). Transitions from 3g to wifi and back have been practically seamless. My bionic seems faster than out if the box, oh and did I mention battery life? Battery life has been awesome, I've had this phone off the charger for just over 12 hours now and im barely under 50% with the extended battery and I've been all over this phone playing games, on the internet, a few phone calls, and Droid forums app and xda app and downloading stuff from the market. So minus the whole losing root and some extra bloat I am overall very pleased with 901. Just keep in mind, once you take the update there is no turning back the clock on your phone to previous builds at this point, it has been total disaster for those who attempted it :(
So be prepared to sit on this awhile if you do. Personally with my phone running like this I think I can handle it.
Sorry for the long winded post I just wanted to share my experience with the update.

After installing 901 update did you have to uninstall and re-insall superuser?

I was just over at the Rootzwiki board. It looks like someone came up with a way to get from 5.7.893 back to 5.5.893 and install the 5.9.901 update. Proceed with caution!

I saw that just a little bit ago but I don't know what this dd command is. I saw someone ask about it and the reply was if you don't know what it is then you shouldn't be messing with it. I'm going to have to learn what this is because I don't want to be stuck on this leak forever.

I found this but it's another language to me. (I'm a salesman not a programmer)

The dd Command

Correct me if i'm wrong but dd commands are Linux commands through terminal. You need the specific bit of code for what you are trying to do. It is sometimes used to make bootable sdcards and what not.

I'll probably look into this later, may mess around with it as a last resort. It would be nice if a program would be made that will automatically do this for us.

Yep uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and even ran basic root check which confirmed no root. So I'm a sad panda about my root going bye bye after it held for 894.

Has anyone tried the Released and Forever Root app to Root their unrooted 901?

I had 5.7.893 installed did a recovery to 5.5.886 installed radio.zip via recovery then applied the http://dl.dropbox.co...36/5T0ck886.rar after phone was rooted and, at this point would no longer boot so I did a recovery to 5.5.886 and booted and then OTA update to 5.5.893 worked just fine.

Thanks for the great team effort!!!

Wow! Is this really true? 5.7.893 to 5.9.901 with corresponding radio and kernel? This would be the best Christmas present ever! No root, hell I can live with that. Look forward to seeing more posts confirming and some instructions to help guide us through the process. Heck, in another week there will probably be a simple program to run to upgrade us to 5.9.901 then root. Maybe I am dreaming now.......

Many thinks to those figuring this stuff out! A donation for sure to the one that gives me what I need to make it happen!

More info was just posted at Rootzwiki...Doesn't look as challenging as the previous solution

Thanks, I might try this later. Has anyone else tried this to confirm it works?

I am torn on installing this, but really want to do it. While it was sent out and will have to be supported I would have to think the accidental release was targeted...Moto knows what phones they sent it to. They may just target those phones with a small patch to get them back on track. Heck, they may send those people new phones. Maybe I am being too careful.

Ok, when I first got the .893 update I never lost the superuser app so I thought I had retained root, but unfortunately I'm not. Titanium backup can't get root access anymore. My question is is there a way to forever root .893 yet?
