Cm 5.0.6.2

hey guys, been reading tons and tons of threads just wanted to get some info here.

been running droidmod v1.0 since the whole sholesmod has been out. the other day i met up with a friend who has cyanogenmod and i really like it. plus my droidmod has been freaking out lately and force closing almost every app known to man. if i wanted to switch to cyanogenmod, all id have to do is just download root manager since im already rooted and rom'd, throw the cm v5.0.6.2 zip file on my sd card, then flash clockwork recovery over SPRecovery which droidmod uses and then flash the cyanogen file correct?

Or you could download ROM Manager from the market, flash ClockworkMod from the frontpage of the app. Download the Cyanogen file from ROM Manager, install it with a data wipe and a backup, and enjoy. :D

You don't need to do any of the whole SD card thing, the whole process is taken care of inside of ROM Manager. When you download the ROM from there it asks you if you want google apps like market, check it, then it will ask if you want a data wipe and back up, check both of those, press ok, and then it will do the whole installation process for you. It's pretty slick.

ok good cuz i was under the impression that if you wanted to download the latest version of cyanogenmod you needed to purchase the full version or else if you use the free version you have to load the rom file on ur sd and flash it from there.

No, Vanilla Cyanogen and its Kernels are all unlocked on the free version.

I switched from Smoked Glass to this ROM, to try it out. Really nice but omg, it devours battery! Other than that, I like it.

I'm pretty sure it comes with wifi-tether in 5.0.6.2, but the clock speed only goes to 600mhz by default. ROM Manager (free version) will let you download kernels that go up to 1.25GHz, or 1.3GHz (however, 1.3 doesn't work, force close loop.)

I run at 1.2GHz, if you couldn't tell already from my signature :p

well, just flashed cyanogenmod 5.0.6.2 and now i gotta reinstall ALL my apps. they show up in "downloads" but none of them are actually installed. kinda annoying, anyone else have this situation?

i also had to reflash clockwork recovery after the rom was done installing.

also noticed that under "about phone" it shows firmware version as 2.1-update1. hope this hasnt ****ed me if i decide to go back to droidmod or something.

I am kinda new to this using custom rom thing. With some help from a friend, I got up to cm 5.0.6.2 and oc'd using the 2.6.29 bekit 5x1000sv kernel (and it seems i have the nextheme?) . Everything seems fine, except backing out of app seem rather laggy. Sometimes, it would be responsive, and i would back out to home screen with a smooth fade away animation. Other times, I will have to wait a few seconds before the screen "stumbles" back out to the home screen. I already checked off the option of keeping launcher in memory (Is the launcher just the pop out menu? that is always smooth for whatever reason, but back to the home screen is not), I disabled compcache, and i'm not compacting the launcher menu. I am using set cpu from between 250mhz to 1000mhz. Could that be causing the problem? Though my friend who is using the same setup except with set cpu between 400-1000 doesn't seem to have any different result.

also, is anyone else running into freeze problem with google earth? It has never happened before. Sometimes when I scroll around in google earth, the screen will just freeze and stop responding to any gesture. the program/phone is not frozen, however, and if i just tap into any of the menu tab (tos, setting, etc) and come back, it will work again. It's just rather annoying, and i'm wondering whether i've got a corrupted file or something.
