DMUpdater updated to root Droid 1, Droid X, and EVO 4G within app

Alright so I did this, and it worked great...blah blah blah.

I just noticed that after doing this, everytime my phone is locked, or the screen times out when I'm not using it, my LED is flashing RED. I dont have any messages or notificiations or anything.

And it only happen when the phone is locked and not in use.

Uhhh, help anyone? :D

You just totally tried to hijack the OP thread. If you have an unrelated question, you should consider starting your own thread.

Yes you will need to do a back up. After this finishes, you will go thru the same steps you did when you took the phone out of the box for the first time. Except activating it. All your apps, contacts and settings will be gone. That was the way I did it. I use Google sync, so as soon as I put in my E-mail information all my contacts were restored. I had a lot of apps I wasn't using and the ones I do use are free on the market so that wasn't an issue for me either. This app takes all the work out of rooting. And once you realize how easy it is to flash a new kernel or rom....its addictive!

New to rooting

I am totally green with understanding rooting and rom's and all of this stuff I read about. The only thing I care about is getting my Droid to run faster than it does.

By downloading this root thing, would I have to do anything else complicated? Will this just make my phone run faster? I'm nervous if I do it I could really screw things up.

Advice?

Once you're rooted you can install an overclocking kernel, but you'll have to install setCPU or OSMonitor to overclock, and you could potentially "really screw things up" by doing so. Read up on the processes, the risks, and the benefits before you do anything. There are a lot of resources on here you can use, including an excellent overclocking thread by Skull One.

One of the main risks is getting locked in a bootloop by trying too aggressive a kernel. However, if there's a problem, the rescue squad is here to help.

No I didn't. I got a little too excited, got in a rush and didn't do enough reading.

However, I wiped my data from the recovery screen and that got me rolling with Froyo.

I will unroot tonight though. I don't know enough about flashing and ROMs and SPrecovery and such. Until I'm comfortable with that I'm not going to fiddle around with the device. I think I got in over my head.
If you have the update you wanted, why undo it? And how were you planning on unrooting? Using DMUpdater on FroYo is untested and possibly dangerous.

I'm currently running unrooted stock 2.1.

My goal is to have a rooted stock 2.2. I only intend to root for a little overclocking, and maybe some themes.

If I root my 2.1 now, will I have a harder time moving to rooted 2.2? Should I wait for the 2.2 OTA to drop and then hope this gets updated to root that?

What do you recommend?

Maybe I'm confused but here goes:

I just got a replacement droid completely stock and i wanna go back to BB .4 that I had on my previous one. Instead of doing SPRecovery and booting w/ Power X and doing it that way w/ update.zip I thought I'd try this... BUT I downloaded this and ran back up, etc, etc, and I have the version of BB on my SD card labeled update.zip but when I go to ROM menu there are only 2 roms... how do I choose that ROM?
Also, what about kernels? I'm tempted to just uninstall DM and get SP recovery the old fashioned way and install it manually....

THANKS!!!!!

This is getting just as complicated as any other Rooting method out there. Just my two cents.

People, just wait if you are still stock 2.1. If you are not a geek (like myself) just gonna have to wait.

Cool APK BTW.

I'm in the exact same boat. My only desire is to overclock. I'm interested to hear recommendations.

Once you are rooted you can essentially install any ROM you wish that is designed for your phone. You can freely go from 2.1 to 2.2, and back again (why you would want to do that I don't know). In fact, you don't even need to be rooted, all you need is a custom recovery like SPRecovery or ClockworkMod. Once you have that you can flash any ROM, including a stock rooted one.

As you will see many other seasoned users here state, if you wish to root then please, please, please take the time to research and read up on the subject. While the risk of bricking your phone has been reduced by these simplified methods, it is still possible.

Remember, there's a speed increase that comes with Froyo -- approximately 2x to 5x depending on the task.

My recommendation if you REALLY want to try overclocking?

Flash SPRecovery, make a nandroid backup, flash in the rooted stock ROM, flash in an overclock kernel from P3Droid or ChevyNo1 or any of the slew of other excellent kernel-builders, install SetCPU, and test. If you don't like it, use RSDLite to flash the stock 2.0.1 SBF file back to your phone and let the updates happen. If you do, play -- there are a bunch of ROMs that do amazing things with your phone.

Remember, there's always risk of damaging or bricking your phone. If you don't want to risk a $600 piece of equipment, DO NOT ROOT! If you have doubts, DO NOT ROOT! If you're not 100% sure of what you're doing, DO NOT ROOT!

If you try to root and you get locked in a bootloop, you probably didn't brick your phone. Seek help here and the rescue squad will do their best to help you.

If I haven't scared you away from rooting yet, go for it. If I have, let the OTA update happen and see if the speed increase inherent in FroYo is enough for you.
