Edit: I'm a noob

u r not alone with unlocking issue.

I was able to obtain a sim unlock code, but it it still has verizon network on it from previouse owner, so I'm thinking I bought a stolen or lost phone, cause it keeps asking me to activate. If I pop in a new sim will it bypass this activation set up when I try to make a call? Ibought the phone because I travel a lot but I have ATT for stateside use

Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using DroidForums App

as i understand ur on att. d2g is locked to this network. only modification of the phone will unlock it.
a group called droidbandulock can do it. look for them on twitter. goodluck.

The longer I use my droid 2 global the more I hate it...Anyone else in the same boat as me? Former blackberry user and at first impressions I loved the phone but there has been more times lately where I just wanted to throw the thing across the room! Not sure if its related to the root or what it just seems so unstable, battery is dreadful (even with underclocking app), swype just pisses me off all the time - at first it was great and lately it has just been awful!?
Is there a guide that everyone agrees on in terms of best battery life? I hear cpuz is great, then I hear it does nothing, I hear advanced task killer is great, then I hear it uses more battery. If I can get 8 hours of basic use (few calls, mostly email/text) I am LUCKY.
Any thoughts for me? The main reason I rooted was for better battery life and for wireless tether..

I have like 6 e-mail accounts set up on mine, and I noticed a fair bit of battery savings by setting the non-critical ones to sync every hour or so instead of every 15 minutes. Hitting the network with that kinda data uses a fair bit of juice. You can also try turning off bluetooth and wifi when you're not using them, and setting your screen brightness a little lower. I've heard that live wallpapers are pretty power-hungry when they're running.

The best thing to do would be to check your battery settings.
Under Settings->Battery Manager-> Battery Mode, I have my phone set for Maximum battery saver. If you tap the battery icon itself, it'll break down what is using the most juice/

Today was a light usage day. According to the battery manager, it has been 8h12m10s since I unplugged, and I'm still at 60% battery.

Good luck!

P.S: I'm also in a fairly weak service area;1 bar most of the time, maybe 2 if I'm lucky.

Yeah, have toned town email, screen background, on max power saver, I dont get it.
Another thing is the default browser doesnt work, it starts to open the just closes down right away, skyfire works, but not sure what happened to browser.

D2G unlock

my phone is "subsidy locked" after too many incorrect attempts at unlocking the sim network with a 3rd party code. now even the correct unlock code from verizon will not allow a foreign sim card to function. i am currently in china, and i was told that my phone cannot be unlocked for foreing sim card use until it is returned to a service center in the US. is there another way to break the sim network lock with a root? i just successfully rooted using z4root but i havent been able to find an application to unlock a foreign sim network. any advice would be appreciated

New Guy

Ok I'm new to the smart phone. What can I do by rooting my phone? Will this make the phone a free hot spot? I can use the mobile hotspot app that came on the phone if I pay VZW for the use. Can you help?

i got replacement in today for my OG. They sent me a brand new Droid2G in its box.........dancedroid I rooted it now i need to know what not to delete from the phone. Like verizon crap. CAN i delete the verizon navigation

Ok, just got a D2G refurb unit and decided to root and do a nandroid backup via the instructions in the first post, just to have a backup in case anything happened. I manage to root just fine, but I run into an error message when I go to do the Bootstrap Recovery.

In the first place, I am never asked for superuser access to run the program, and the error message I get is:

Failure

Error running exec().
Command:[su, -c, .data/data/com.koushikdutta.droid2.bootstrap/files/surunner.sh]
Working Directory: null
Environment: null

Anyone ever run into this, or have an idea how to fix it?

edit: Upon doing a full on reboot on my D2G and rerunning the root program again was I able to get the Success message. However, it seems that it will not boot into recovery mode to allow me to do a nandroid backup, it just boots the whole way up.

edit2: Kept trying on it, and now I'm in recovery doing nandroid backup. Weird that it's taking multiple attempts to get it working, is this common among others?
