Things to know of, the only reason BlackDroid and his team came here in the first place is because they were booted off of AllDroid because of something very similar except with Pete and his Bugless Beast ROM.

That should have been a red flag but I understand the forum owners here having no problem with him when he first came in. They went out of their way to show their support for him, and in return I am sure they got a little spike in unique hits for the people visiting to read the latest about his ROM.

Now, I feel that for the most part here at DroidForums.net the Moderators and Administrators have done the best job they could possibly have done given the circumstances. The only suggestion I could think of that may have worked out better for everyone would have been to hand out a temporary ban of three to seven days to both BlackDroid and Koush and ask them via Email or Gtalk to get this issue between them settled, rather then allowing for a weeks worth of flaming to go on between the community here. Once they email you back and tell you it is settled, you could remove the bans and allow things to go back to normal.

By allowing the flaming to go on for quite some time you likely have lost a bit of members here or there but it is nothing this site can not overcome. It just sucks to lose people like Koush and the real hard workers. To be honest though, if there are people out there who support unethical work and lies and deceit, then I don't mind those people leaving and not being around anymore.

This is for the best of the forum. Besides, and I hope I am not breaking any forum rules by saying this, when I want a ROM, I usually head to google or AllDroid first just to get the latest updates straight from the source. That is all I see those other sites for anyways. Whenever I want to discuss an app, game, the OS platform, and anything else android related at all, I use this site. This is my first bookmark in FireFox and this has been my first stop online since the site opened up. The site will go on, and likely become even stronger with the HTC Droid Incredible crowd joining us soon as well.

Let bygones be bygones and lets move on. Drama will happen, but it is just temporary. It isn't ROM Developers, or Mods, or Admins that make this place my home, it is the community. I support this site and its decision.

Wow this sucks...I understand both sides just wish something could have worked out so no one had to leave....time to check out Cyanogen's (sp?) rom now.

Lol, both sides wanted it to work out so no one had to leave? That is why Cyanogen posted "the good guys won" on the front page of his site when BD got shut down. They came on here with the goal of getting him kicked off and they got what they wanted, it is too bad they had to do it through a massive flame war rather than privately taking it up with BD and the droidforum moderators.

The problem is that BlackDroid wouldn't acknowledge the obvious oversight of taking code from Cyano and then saying he got it straight from source, which was a lie. He was then taking donations for work that others did, without giving credit to the people he took it from.

He got kicked off of AllDroid for doing something similar with Pete's ROM, and he had a bit of controversy because he was leaving paid apps in his ROMs so that anyone who downloaded his ROM would have the paid app. The developer of said app then contacted him and had him stop doing that. It just seems like shady act after shady act. He offered great customer service and help, but this may have been because he wasn't compiling his own code, he was taking it, saving him tons of man hours. So while others are working on fixes for things, he offered help to the community, and then when they fixed the errors in their ROMs, he could then port the code over to his.

All he had to do was say that he was sorry for what he did and that it wouldn't happen again, and that this would only push him harder to make his own original ROM that is even better then anything out there. This is the internet, people would have forgotten and moved on had he just said sorry for taking your code without giving credit. It was like he tried to side step the whole issue, which put him in deeper and made him look even more shady.

If you want his roms just do to his site or use use CM new rom 5.0.6.1 and then add some themes and a few kernel from bekit, take some stuff from bugless beauty and u have a better rom and you know how to do some things yourself.

Alright, this part of your sig. Castrate me if I am wrong here, but isn't this the very thing that got BD into trouble in the first place? Taking something "web page/rom" that you didn't create adding things "wifi tether/html radio" that you didn't create and then asking for donations? At least you made it super easy by creating a link to donate. How can we be sure though that the money is actually going to the person who took everyone elses code and slammed it all together? Not sure I would know exactly who to trust to donate any funds to, I am so confused about who did what and who deserves money for what.

I dunno, I kinda like the way others ask for donations, if you like it donate or buy me a beer, or I like shots, whatever. Seems like a paid version of tabloid forum drama to me. If I wanted to socially network drama, I would be on myspace. There are a lot more cool things to do, and it's free.

Were they "his" roms? Or did he put together bits, parts and pieces of other peoples code? I was thinking about it. Anyone can take bits parts and pieces of other peoples codes, add them to their phone, save them as a nandroid backup, throw them on a forum page and ask for donations.

But not many people can actually create something totally new.

Think I will stick with the guys that actually create the code, seems a more intelligent path to follow. And if I want something like Ultimate Droid I can simply search, find and use all the different bits, parts and pieces of code out there. It's sort of like buying stock, are you going to allow some shmuck fresh out of college, to manage your portfolio, or are you going to educate yourself and pick your own stocks?

There is one last little thing I am totally confused about. How can you take other peoples code, throw it all together, claim it's yours and then turn around and blame someone else for it not working correctly?

:::sigh::: Just glad the admins have integrity enough to stop this type of thing right now. If not, every Joe Blow might get it in their head that they can throw together a bunch of cool stuff on their phone, make a nandroid backup of it, and call it their ROM and ask for donations. Could you imagine what a mess the forums would be in then?

I totally agree with your post, and even your solution. Although once I understood what was actually happening, I would never again use a BD ROM, he might have had something more to offer the community if not just purely helping others.

Forums that have problems with people flaming usually have a section for rants. Maybe if the moderators created an area for rants and flames it would keep it out of the other areas where people don't want to see those types of posts. I know personally, it gets frustrating sorting through hundreds of posts looking for something to help me and having to wade through tons of flaming to get what I need.
