The past is usually the best indicator of the future.
To the best of my recollection ALL previous Motorola updates have required a specific build, not rooted, all bloat installed and functioning.
The file name has always been the build that was the previous official build.
The unique situation here is that the Christmas "leak" was pushed "officially".
I would think that the most likely scenario is that two builds will be pushed.

1. A final JB release for those still on. 211 and then an update for those in Christmas JB.
2. A push of the Christmas JB to all, then an update to that.

I would think that the update to the Christmas JB would be a much smaller file.

Just my penny's worth while we all have pennies.

Do we wait for OTA, while remaining on 215 and listen for results?
Do we revert to .211 a soon we hear news OTA push?
Do we just go ahead and install JB Xmas?

Quick question that I haven't found an answer yet. I'm currently rooted using the latest Safestrap & the Icarus rom. Where do I start to install this leak. Do I switch to the stock side & go from there or what?

I can only share what I did and my logic in making those choices.
I had problems with.. 211 so knowing that taking 215 would take me off the upgrade path I waited, read, then only after several reports that it actually helped AND, there was a way back to 211 to get back on the upgrade path I updated to 215.

Then the Christmas JB got pushed "officially".

Again I waited, read reports from those who took the leap. The big difference is that as of yet there is no going back. Meaning that you will be off the update path with JB. But, it was official. It was pushed through official means. Unlike 214 or 215 which were never officially pushed but rather "stolen" from a hacked test site and intended only for internal use.
Motorola even acknowledged the release.
That is the big difference. They pushed it. They therefore will do something to allow those who updated to get to official later releases. I think it will be in their best interest to do so.
How they accomplish that is still in question. There may be a delay for those on JB to get the latest version when it is pushed to all. I think that is the worst case for those who sideload the Christmas JB.
I think it is an improvement over both. 211 and. 215.
I'm not scared. Even if they don't update this JB build for those who sideloaded it the dev community will come up with a fix eventually. They always have.
I'm no expert so make you own decisions.
If you're on 215 I feel sure you will have to go back to 211 before you can move to any update. When you do is up to you.
I would grab the files to do that now just in case.

I guess I'll wait out my .215 - If I waited this long, what's another few weeks. The thought backing up, going back down to 211, installing Xmas JB and doing it all over again is discouraging me. In any event, I appreciate opinions of users who are ahead of the curve. It's a great way to learn!

If you take the Christmas JB I don't think there is any going back. I'm convinced that there will be a direct update from that.
I'm also convinced that going back to 211 will be required to go forward in either case.

I'm waiting for the official version just because I just don't feel like dealing with the missing pieces in the leaked version, plus I have to go through downgrading to get any of it anyway so might as well wait for a better build to save a few steps. I fully expect to have to drop back to .211 which i will do and see if I do it soon enough to get the OTA. If not its not the end of the world since someone on here will capture it and make it available for side-loading. And even if that didn't happen there is still the leaked version so nothing is really lost.

I don't disagree with your conclusion except for saving steps. I guess you would save one step by waiting which would be a second OTA.

I agree with both of u! I'll stay with .215 and revert in one clean sweep one OTA is released. No sense installing Xmas JB, all of my apps now. Waiting will bring me back to a clean system, an allow me to install XmasJB cleanly and safely.

Off topic: Dislike features of IPAD and thinking of Android Tablet. Any ideas?

I'm rooted on jb (Xmas present). I use WiFi tether. When I had my droid 2 rooted I was on WiFi tether, I sbf, and was running foxfi for a longtime. Till they made it paid. Rerooted and used WiFi tether again, it hasn't failed me...

I see they got rid of the sticky note widget on JB. I actually used that fairly often. Google now works ok as a replacement but it's not the same. Sticky note worked great when I needed to make a grocery list.

I will attempt my first root once Moto OTA JB is released. I think I will feel more relaxed by waiting, observing, and monitoring the boards.

I looked all over the this thread and could not find the answer to the following question. How do I know if I am on .211 or .215. Can you tell me exactly where to look. Im assuming its on the about phone under the settings but cant figure out where exactly it is. By the way, the phone was already rooted when I purchased it from some guy.
