Froyo Release Thread

Now that that 2.2 has been released for the rooted phones , when can we stock users expect the full OTA release ? I have no intentions of rooting my phone . I'm not experienced in doing it , so I'm not going to attempt it . I wish I was , it sounds like it's so much better , but I digress . Anyway , any info on a standard public OTA or a release for non-rooted phones , which is how I got 2.1 would be great ! I love this site

I am not expecting an OTA any time soon .....sorry but try looking at this

SEtCPU has issues. It dissapears on boot, disables widgets, etc. Try another app.

Wait, what? It has been more or less flawless for me so far. Now granted, that's just within the last 24 hours or so since I went to 2.2, but no problems yet.

What exactly do you mean "disappears on boot"? The setCPU widget? Or the application from the app drawer? Something else?

This is not an official release.
It's a leak of an evaluation version of the 2.2 ROM which some wonderful people then decided to release to the world for us to play with.

The official OTA will be sometime "soon™"

Some people have hinted that a version of this pre-release may be made available to the non-rooted folks at some point in the near future. We shall see.

I just tried what you suggest c0y0te, didn't work. :( Also, there aren't any extra folders. I placed the 2010-06-05.06.15.32 folder in the clockworkmod/backup/ . Not sure what's going on...

This is what I did (except I added a "-froyo" on to my directory name so I can easily see it in the list of backups), and it worked ok for me.

Once you have that dir in clockworkmod/backup, what are you doing to install it? I booted into clockwork recovery, wiped cache 3x, wiped data 3x, then did a nandroid -> restore -> <that folder>.... and it worked ok.

I tried exactly what you described. That's what makes it so bizarre. I'm trying SPRecovery again now though.

You are using the spr specific download, right? The one with the other name? And not to be overly redundant, but the folder you are selecting is the one with the boot image and other files contained directly within and no other folders in between?

That is correct. I double-checked. Right now I have SPRecovery on and I'm copying the froyo-BS-20100605-0547 to the nandroid folder on my SDCard. Let's see what happens. *crosses fingers*

You don't have to root your phone to load 2.2. I did it without rooting. I download SPRecovery and installed it with RSD Lite. After that I ran SPRecovery, downloaded my files for 2.2, copied some files into the Nandroid folder and then did recovery.

That sounds real simple but I just completed it and it took me all day. But I am running 2.2 and I am not rooted. It can be done and it isn't that hard in retrospect. Thanks to all my friends in this forum for helping me at various times, it is very much appreciated. :)

I just checked out the instructions for installing 2.2 on a non-rooted device, and with all due respect, it seems more complicated than rooting and installing....I kind of wonder what the point is, but to each his own, I guess.

Either way, I want to once again thank this community for making all of these options available to users. It really is an amazing thing.

If this works... Let me know, I'm in the same boat as you.

Do this: run Quadrant on 2.1 See how long its sits at the 11/12 part of the CPU test. Install Froyo and see how long it sits at 11/12 of the same test.

U will see a difference.

See I don't get this. Why should I care how long it takes for step 11/12 on some benchmark test? How is that going to improve my user experience in any way?
Quadrant measures a series of things your Droid will do.

12 CPU test
1 Memory test
4 I/O test
1 2D graphic test
3 3D graphic test

It averages all the test and gives you how your overall system is performing covering the Processor, the Graphics Processors, the file system I/O and Memory.

These are things your Droid does for everything.

2.1 @ 1200 mhz for me gave me a best of 758 on Quadrant.
2.2 @ 1200 mhz for me gave me a best of 1573 on Quadrant.

That should give you enough info. Real world use would be more like running applications, switching between apps, etc.. You won't see much difference in moving around the launcher screens, etc.. though it overall appears to be smoother/faster as well.

..........That test in Quadrant took longer to run on 2.1 It runs waay faster on 2.2 ALL the test run faster on 2.2 The Quadrant app is speeded up by 2.2 Thats the only reaso0n I mentioned it.

An app is running faster on 2.2 than on 2.1

Did you use the files in the OP?
