Froyo Release Thread

Does your guyses browser seem laggy when scrolling or zooming in...Flash definitely slows it down...

Mine was laggy before froyo. Now I'm seeing a definite improvement. I've also decided to get rid of my screen protector. The only thing I noticed is that the flash ads don't scroll with the rest of the screen at the same rate. They seem to scroll a split second behind.

Has anyone figured out why Froyo isn't fast on a non-overclocked phone yet?

what? Froyo is at least twice as fast running stock versus a Droid running 2.1. Guess I'm not totally understanding what you are asking.

I dunno, when I installed 2.2 on my phone it was very sluggish and slow. I waited for a good hour and thought "this is terrible" then downloaded and installed the 1.2 ghz overclocked kernel, set it to 900 mhz, and the thing literally flew.

I thought everyone had the same experience. I guess not? what I'm saying is if you have a brand new stock Droid and you got this 2.2 as an update, would your phone be as fast?

well I'm glad somebody has had success.

I'm trying to figure out how some people have different issues with different recovery images.

CW always worked flawlessly for every phone i've put it on. The thought that a nandroid backup could interfere with the recovery partition makes me uneasy.

Just curious, did you open Rom Manager the first time you booted froyo and flash clockwork before you tried to boot it into recovery again?

Probably because there is a recovery image in the nandroid backup file. So we are flashing that recovery image over the top of the one that exists on our device.

This was my experience as well, especially after overclocking it.

I wouldn't expect the quality to get better, never had a problem with that anyway. I'm hoping the speed is improved, right now it's really dogging. the Incredible takes pictures so quickly!

Remember that this is a release candidate that we are using. SO it was not a completely finished ROM in terms of coding. A finished version will more likely be much smoother at lower clock speeds.

I did Sp yesterday,, wiped factory 3x. then fired up the ole adb shell on the PC and wiped everything 3x.
SYSTEM:
DATA:
CACHE:
BOOT:

All is well for me,, but for the life of me I just dont understand why ppl are so reluctant to Root,,,Just read the forums, everything happens here b4 public gets it, so you can revert back to what ever you came from or even a stock image.
Too many possibilities to deny the droids capabilities. But to each its own..

But my advice if installing thru SP recovery.. adb shell commands on your computer to wipe everything, and if your using CW,, wipe the boot and system.. save yourself the trouble of possible issues, Youll be impressed for sure.

I tried exactly what you described. That's what makes it so bizarre. I'm trying SPRecovery again now though.

You are using the spr specific download, right? The one with the other name? And not to be overly redundant, but the folder you are selecting is the one with the boot image and other files contained directly within and no other folders in between?

SPRecovery did not work. I am stuck at the Motorola Logo boot loop...suggestions?

Here's what I did to have a successful sprecovery:
**Makesure your SP Recovery is somewhat up to date. I run the 0.99.3b version**
1.) downloaded the froyo zip file
2.) downloaded the P3 Kernel zip file ( i chose the 1200/250 version)
2.) unpacked P3DF zip file and renamed the Kernel zip file to update (vista doesn't make me type in .zip)
3.) copyied update.zip to the root of my sdcard
4.) Followed the OP's installation intructions TO THE LETTER while making sure to format my data and cache partitions before going through with the install
4.) Without rebooting, installed new kernel by choosing install > allow update.zip installation , then choosing Install /sdcard/update.zip (depreceated)
5.) Once that's done, reboot. Bootup will take several minutes. Once you get to the setup screen, get through that, let gmail and market place sync, will take 20-30mins. Crack open your favorite beer while you wait. Smile while ur at it :)

Don't forget the smile, very important.

Yeah, I flashed clockwork right after I got froyo running. I tried to delete maps and couldn't get it to download again, like a lot of other people, and used rom manager to reload froyo again and everything worked fine. This second time I did everything the same except delete maps.

This is interesting:

When the 2.1 OTA came out, it was slowing down a lot of droids, and Kellex over at Droid-Life.com did a report on it and put an app up that tests lag on your droid.

2.2 is producing over double the FPS for me that 2.1 (or BB 1.1 for that matter) was. Here's the link if you want to try it yourself:

2.1 Update Slowing Down Droids? | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog

Oh....I remember reading this about 2.1 causing FPS to go down. Now its back up...lol Welll, that means gaming, maybe Live Wallpapers is going to a lil better on 2.2

As fast as what? I haven't been able to find a single person whose 2.2 was not NOTICEABLY faster than 2.1 with the same speed kernel in both, and after having waited for 2.2 to "settle", download everything, etc.

so... "yes", I think.
