GPS Outage in East Texas?

added to the map.. i filled in all the area where we have seen it not working.. i did notice that my area was pretty larger than the others.. this is pretty much where we spend most of our time.

I guess they're doing somethimg inthe area. I forgot to turn down the volume on my phone lastnight....... It lost cell signal and regained it something like 4 times.... It said "verizon wireless" like 4 or 5 times. That doesn't happen during the day.

I've posted this same info on another forum, but I wanted to spread the word. We are having problems with CS because they do not support 3rd party apps like Google maps, so they can't escalate the issue. It dawned on me today that I should give VZ Navigator a shot and see if it works. As we have all assumed, I verified today that it doesn't work (yes, I signed up for the $10 per month fee). What has this done for me? Now CS is listening to me. I spoke with a level 2 tech today with Verizon and she verified with me that it is not working. She escalated my ticket to a higher level engineer and said someone will call me tomorrow. She also added that if they are not able to get the problem resolved, they will refund the cost of VZ Navigator. I know this is not much progress, but at least I'm getting farther than before trying to explain how my 3rd party apps aren't working. Plus, I can stop subscription to VZ navigator at any time. Think about it...they want their product to work! I saw an earlier post from someone that was frustrated with a store rep because they were pushing VZ navigator. Go back to the store and make them show you how well VZ navigator is working. :-)

I'll keep you posted on my findings.

They gave us 2 months credit for it.... I'll see it doesn't work and make another call.

This is good work.

Maybe we ought to start another thread on VZ Navigator not workin'... That'll get attention!

Is that the one that uses the frequency next to the gps frequency? If so, no wonder gps is dead!

What do the updates have to do with the GPS satellites? I'm not saying you are wrong but just wondering if the GPS signal has to past first through Verizons towers...

Either way I'm still not working in Kilgore, TX!

Good luck with the call back. I was told the same thing last week, still waiting.

That is the million dollar question. You are right, it should have nothing to do with it. My theory is that either:
a) The GPS and radio are controlled by the same chip, causing interference, but only on the Alltel towers (sounds unlikely)
b) The GPS chips in Verizon phones are custom-written to pull almanac data from the towers to use for assisted GPS, and there's no way to turn it off because it's in the hardware, and the data on the Alltel towers is corrupt

Nobody really knows yet. Verizon blames Google, people outside of Texas say we're crazy and it must be the hardware.

Yeah...maybe we all are crazy :icon_eek: haha

But this has been ridiculous, it's like we are being ignored.

Very much so, I filed a complaint with the BBB over the weekend

Just spoke with a good friend of mine, GPS didn't work today until he got outside of Alexandria, LA. I think I may go ahead and file a complaint as well...
