Having An Issue With 2.1 - Come In Here

Quick question. If you refuse the ota how often does it prompt you till you accept?

I've heard every 5 minutes to every 30 minutes. But in the end if you keep refusing it will just update on it's own. It's a mandatory update. The only way to avoid it is to root and put a custom ROM in your Droid.

Don't know why you wouldn't want to update. It's far better then 2.0.1.

have the update, but at the conclusion of the updating process, I noticed the triangle with the exclamation point. The news and weather icon and gallery appear to be working fine, but no new home screens. VZ rep just informed me that the update had bugs and a new one will contain fixes and roll out in a couple of weeks. Has anyone else heard this?

launcher2

Did OTA update this am and it completed successfully. When I slid to unlock I received the message "the application Launcher(process com.android.launcher2) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. When I force close it keeps coming back to the same message. Unable to do anything with phone. Pulled battery samo samo. Anyone solved this. Thanks

Was the rep specifically referring to the update that started a few days ago or the update that was supposed to come out on the 18th?

he wasn't specific, just said that the first round of updates had problems and they would be resent in the next few weeks

I saw this posted on another forum that the Android keyboard now shows only in portrait not in landscape so I tried it out on my new updated Droid. And sure enough the Android keyboard not only does not show up for me in landscape but it does not show up in portrait either.

Now for me I have been using the HTC keyboard which works fine in both but I would think this would be a big issue for some and wondered if anyone else had this problem or knew a solution.

And sorry if this has been covered, I just don't have time right now to read the whole thread here.

I lost my haptic feedback when texting with Handcent.

Works for everything else but not texting...

Pretty awkward texting without that little vibration.

Glad I rooted and use custom ROM's that are far ahead of the crappy stock 2.1 update...
My dogs better than your dog.. na na nana na:r_c:

No doubt.

Keyboards work fine on my 2.1 as well, landscape or otherwise. The new "corner keyboard" or "tilt keyboard" works great too, although it's a little small.

Kidding. About the second part. It's buggy as hell. In my mind.

Not sure what the "Reality Check" is for, but I'm just saying - what's the point of an O.T.A. update that is far behind the blazing fast custom ROMS available. The buggy 2.1 O.T.A. sounds like a huge step back.

The point is that there are a lot of thick-headed old people out there who can barely manage a stock install, let alone the "skillz" required to follow custom ROM installation instructions, usually written in either Engrish or faux-l33t. Then there are the productivity users who just want a durn smartphone that reliably performs tasks X and Y; they can't be bothered with all this custom ROM hoo-ha.

There's a huge, diverse DroidWorld outside your window. A lot of its inhabitants (GASP!) don't give a crap about trickin-out their telephones.

Ok guys, that's enough. JohnAP2, no talking about rooting in this thread this has to do with 2.1. That's a warning.

Everyone else, quit feeding him. It just causes more problems.
