[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

Great. I have 2.1 now but not 1 damn feature of 2.1. No moving wallpapers. No 3d app bar. No voice to text. How I do I got back to my previous version so I can just wait.

Others answered the features stuff, but there is no 3D app Launcher in 2.1 for Droid. Grab Helix to get more screens and you can try helix 2.

Helix just an app from the Market? I got most of the features running now.

Yes, helixlauncher.

1.2 is onmarket, ver 2 and other beta's are available, but right now by donation on xda-developers site, and the dev isn't taking donations at the moment, sorry.

This won't delete any other personal data will it? I'll still have all my apps, texts, contacts, notes, and other data right?

I forced 2.1 and all went well. However, I went to the marketplace and tried to download Google Earth and keep getting the message "Download was unsuccessful, please try again". Suggestions?

Fu**in cool. I was scared about doing this process (technology creep fear), but I did it and it went off without any issues/trouble.

Live wallpapers - cool
new gallery app - cool
speech to text app - cool, but I am addicted to swype so I may not use this alll that much.

Thanks Guys!

Just installed it on my Droid. Couldnt be easier. Even half asleep sitting at my desk at work, I got it done.

And for people downloading the update directly from the Droid browser to your Droid, when I did it, it put the update into the "download" folder. It needs to be cut and pasted one directory up. That may be why some people can't find it or its having trouble installing.

Can't get it to work. I get the /!\, but there are no selections... nothing. Just the image. Tried it six times in a row and got the same result. What am I doing wrong?

Keep pressing volume up and the camera button. It took me about 10 presses to get the menu to come up.

What am I doing wrong? I downloaded the file directly to my droid and when prompted to "save as" I typed in update.zip. I checked it out in my astro file manager and the icon next to it is an open box with three sheets of paper standing up in it. Then I followed the instructions and I still got the message that said aborted file not found.

Can anyone tell what I screwed up?

1. File needs to be update.zip you can check it by trying to rename in astro.

2. file needs to be in /sdcard - not where you downloaded it. copy and paste to /sdcard.

Then retry.

Got it up and running, thanks!

I am rooted, but on 2.0.1. My recovery console is Nandroid, can I just run the update.zip file from in there? I don't really care if it unroots me for now, I just want to know if I can/can't do it this way.

Anyone?

Should I totally reset my phone before I do? Also, if I update it over the zip file, will I still be able to get updates OTA in the future?

If we force update will we still receive a notification from Verizon to update. If so what will happen. Are there any consequences to force updating???
