[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

Keep pressing volume up and the camera button. It took me about 10 presses to get the menu to come up.
This is because the instructions are wrong.
You should press and hold the Vol up and then press the camera button half way down.
This will work every time.

Edit: I need more sleep.
Vol up not power up.

Hello Everyone: Being new to the forum just one quick question. If I go down this path do I lose my Over clocking? I am using D U updater and love it to death. Many thanks in advance to whoever responds.

DID it!

I did it and it works.

I am simultaneously happy and sad.

Happy:
Runs Faster
Voice to Text actually works. and works really really well
Gallery is sweet
Pinch to zoom is nice (but I was used to it anyway because i use dolphin browser)

Sad:
Not 5 screens
Same app drawer

What is this helix i keep hearing about? would I have to root?

Thanks

PS I used vol up and camera and it worked fine on the first press

Can't get it to work. I get the /!\, but there are no selections... nothing. Just the image. Tried it six times in a row and got the same result. What am I doing wrong?
You're not pressing the vol up & camera key simultaneously after you see that image.

It takes a bit of doing, at least on mine I was suprised. Try hitting the camera button half way and the up vol, time them both, you'll get it to flip over to the menu ...

Yes, you will lose root, and your OC, and your custom ROM if installed.

Damn nice dmartins!

Retried on mine just to see, that was great!

But you did mean vol up ... no worries ...

OP can you update the first post to include this?

Interesting result: When I now try to click on Gallery, I am told that the "Application is not installed on your phone."

Try pressing the vol+ button first immediately followed bt the camera button while still holding the vol+.

I got...

E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package
Verifying update package...
E:failed to read footer from /sdcard/update.zip
(is a directory)

Just delete your shortcut and re-add it. It's pointing to the old gallery right now.

I am rooted, but on 2.0.1. My recovery console is Nandroid, can I just run the update.zip file from in there? I don't really care if it unroots me for now, I just want to know if I can/can't do it this way.

Anyone?

Delete the .zip from the filename. It's already a compressed folder, so it won't need the extension added.

Has anyone else on their firmware version get 2.1update-1
