[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

the people that are getting the force closes are because they had launcher2 installed when they upgraded. You have to get into "settings" then manage applications and then clear defaults for that app. It should be possible... keep working at it.

So, how do I get into Settings if I get the Force Close message every 2 seconds because I had Launcher2 installed?

Android Market is broken

I think I'm having a similar issue to the guy who was trying to download Google Earth after updating to 2.1. Every time I try to download any app I'll get an error saying to try again. Not sure if this is a small group of phones this is happening to or if people just haven't noticed yet.

I forced 2.1 and all went well. However, I went to the marketplace and tried to download Google Earth and keep getting the message "Download was unsuccessful, please try again". Suggestions?

I'm getting the same message with ANYTHING I try to download off of the market. Rebooted the phone - no change. Trying to reapply the update and see what happens...

(edit: no change - can't download anything from the phone...)

Interesting result: When I now try to click on Gallery, I am told that the "Application is not installed on your phone."
Just delete your shortcut and re-add it. It's pointing to the old gallery right now.

I am rooted, but on 2.0.1. My recovery console is Nandroid, can I just run the update.zip file from in there? I don't really care if it unroots me for now, I just want to know if I can/can't do it this way.

Anyone?

Thanks. Figured that out right after I posted. Stupid me.

This update works perfectly all! Jump on in - the water's fine.

Delete the .zip from the filename. It's already a compressed folder, so it won't need the extension added.

Has anyone else on their firmware version get 2.1update-1

I do that and I get
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)

I installed and did the reboot, now im getting the "red eye" boot up screen, and its been stuck on this for like 5 minutes...

It will take a little bit. I noticed the eye animation seemed faster though ...

Still on the eye?

I did everything, it even says I have the correct firmware version and build number and all that good stuff...but nothing on my phone is different or updated. What gives?

can anyone confirm that you can't download apps from the market?? there's been a couple people on the forum that said this is the case.

Nope - can't install Goggle Earth or Live Wallpapers from the market after installing the update. Rebooted the phone several times as well.

Additionally, a long press on the home screen brings up nothing now.

...verra strange...
