[HOW TO] Install the leaked Android 4.0.4 ICS build on the Droid 4 (XT894)

You can go straight from GB
The only thing I have done to the phone since I've got it is root it and install some apps. Should I still fastboot .219 when I start converting to .211? I'm ultra new to this so sorry for my newbish questions. I'm very tech savy so it's not like a whole new world to me, just trying to get my bearings on what's what.

So you're on 219 GB right now? As long as you didn't remove any system apps or anything you should just be able to put the 211 zip on your sdcard and update no problem.

Upgrade from 6.16.208 to 6.16.211

Hey Guys

I'm from the UK but currently in USA. I've just bought a Droid 4 because of GSM being enabled so I can use it when I'm back in England on T-Mobile UK

I bought my Droid 4 yesterday from Best Buy without a contract.

It came with 6.13.215 Gingerbread so I downloaded the FastBoot method to upgrade it to 6.13.219 no problems

I then downloaded 4.0.4 ICS (6.16.208) and put on my SD card and booted in and updated from the SD card to 6.16.208 with no problems. So my Droid 4 is now on ICS and I have the Global Roaming Options

However, I now want to go to 6.16.211 but if I copy that to my SD card I get the good old build.props file error so it won't update

Can I go from 6.16.208 to 6.16.211? If so, can someone clarify the steps as I wasnt sure if I had to go back to 6.13.219 first (which on some posts in big red letters says it will brick your device) or do something else

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks again

Andy

This. Try the update first without doing step 1. If it succeeds, great; if not, backup your apps/data with something like Titanium Backup and then start over from step 1.

Yes. Follow the instructions in this thread

What did you download so far? This thread has all you need http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-4-roms/212634-simplified-211-update-guide.html

All you need is the Razr utility, Unstick tool, the 211 update, and the ICS root tool.

I have the :

211 Update (6.16.211)
The UnstickICS tool
Motofail tool
RSDlite tool
Droid4Utility
Motorola USB Drivers for Windows

Is that everything?

Thanks again for your help

I did read that Simplified guide.. I'll re-read now.

Andy

This is ALL that you need:
- Droid RAZR Utility (to flash back to 219)
- The ICS leak on your external sd card (around 350 MB, to install the leak)
- The matching kernel for your leak (around 8 MB, for the leak to work)
- Unstick Tool with the 219 files (to flash the new kernel)*

* If you don't have the FULL unstick tool, you'll need to have the 219 files.

If you want to root your phone, you can do that afterwards.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that I wasn't able to flash the leak I had on my sd card because it was in a folder named "download" and recovery wouldn't scroll down past a certain point. If you have lots of folders, put the leak in a folder near the top of the list (mine was in "/mnt/sdcard-ext/Android", for example), or you won't be able to select it when it comes to flash the leak.

You don't need to download the kernel separately, the updated Unstick tool has the 211 kernel in it already, see this post:

no renameing unless you want to flash 206 kern... the script has everything named correctly and the images are truly 206,208,and 211. if u want 211 use option 2. i just figured that the old instructions were so confusing it started to become less safe so i tuned it up lol.
