[HOW TO] Install the leaked Android 4.0.4 ICS build on the Droid 4 (XT894)

wow guys, for some reason with chrome the link doesnt open right, i opened internet explorer and pasted the link and it worked fine.... wasted 2 days over this ****! so sorry guys!

I mentioned in another thread that Google play Books and movies keeps defrosting after reboot, so I uninstalled it using titanium backup and haven't had any adverse consequences.

What's so scary about being off the OTA path? I'm very confident that a developer can figure out a way to get us back on it. When ICS leak was, well, leaked, everyone said it would get us off the OTA path. That didn't even make me hesitate.

I'm almost definitely going to be using a custom ROM anyway.

wow ur so right i didnt even think about that! thank you, youve cleared my conscious!

And for the record, I haven't noticed any difference between .206 and .208. I'm sure there are some (someone said BT calls were clearer?), but they're certainly not extreme.

Clearer BT would be nice, though. I do use it a lot to make calls during my commute.

So I installed cheesecake, trying to see whether an update is available. However, after the initial setup I only get a spinning wheel stating "communicating with server" without anything happening. I went through the setup, clicked on first option, rebooted, then changed server. Any other thoughts? I am still on GB

I also downloaded cheesecake, but (currently using Eclipse ROM) got stuck at the communicating with the servers message. I even tried to use cheesecake on my rooted stock ROM and I got the same message. How do I get past that message?

For cheesecake you have to be on stock (219 GB) and you have to be rooted. If you are getting stuck with the communicating with server screen try going to your apps in the system menu. Force close "google services framework" and clear data. Then try again. If that doesn't work then you might have to do a factory data reset to get it going.

so we dont need to factory reset/wipe data after installing the ics zip in recovery??? i def thought we would have to do this or else the OS wouldnt load up... anyone do/not do this?

Not if you are coming from the GB 219. I didn't when I went from 219 to the ICS 206 leak.
