[HOW TO] Install the leaked Android 4.0.4 ICS build on the Droid 4 (XT894)

Yes, I am. This thread is *supposed* to be a how to, but since neither Clockwork (doesn't support Droid 4) nor Safe Strap (can't install leaked rom) nor stock recovery (wont read from internal SD card) can be used, this how to's "method 2" is complete nonsense. Looks like I'll have to get an SD Card and try "method 1". Unless there's some other way to install a leaked rom? Thanks for the help.

It's not a full rom but a patch over the stock GB. You can't use nor have any custom recovery installed.

You're not moving from one leak to another, you're just reinstalling the leak over itself, so you just apply the update from the sd card.

Ya I tried and it said aborted error 7 I think I am going to have to go threw the hole process of going from one leak to another because for the leak to take doesn't it have to think it is a upgrade of the os

Response to coder0xff:

Just get an sd card and follow the instructions for Method 1. You'll eventually need an sd card to jump from leak to leak, or from the leak to the official ICS OTA whenever that comes out.

Go into safestrap and uninstall recovery and then unstall safestrap. Then try the update again. If that doesn't work then you have to reinstall the leak using the Unstick method a few threads down.

I thought there was a way to install from the internal sd card. I haven't done it myself but I thought that what the .crc(?) file was for.

I know you can install the leak coming from GB using Method 2 (internal storage). However when you go from leak to leak you need an sd card because during the unstick process the internal sd card is basically wiped. That's why OTA Rootkeeper doesn't work going from leak to leak, but does work going from gb to a leak.

Don't I have to be on unsafe side to uninstall recovery and safestrap that is the prob

That is the prob I can not do anything on unsafe side if I rsd gb and start over do you think that will work or do I have to remove safestrap first

I didn't use it to install the leak I had the leak on my phone for a week but I wanted to undo what I did to the leak user wise so I did a data wipe I never said I was trying to flash the leak

Once your on the leak, you can't go back a step, seeing tht there isn't any fastboot files for the ICS leak. So any modification tht is done, u gotta do with caution...

Yes I understand that but can I redue the leak as if I was going from one leak to another

Yes you can! Look for the Unstuck thread. Basically you will have to flash 219 (which will fail but will install some necessary files) then you flash the 213 kernel, and thenapply the 213 update. There are more bits in between but those are the main points.

EDIT. Look at the unsticl thread so you get an understanding of the terminology and the reasons certain things must be done. Do not rush. Then go to this thread which has a utility that makes the process convenient http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-4-hacks/212307-droid-4-utility-updated.html
