[HOW TO] Install the leaked Android 4.0.4 ICS build on the Droid 4 (XT894)

To add to Tcrews post, the leak looks for stock GB219 and if it's there it will continue the update process. Alternatively it will continue if it's installing over itself. In your case ICS215 will look for GB219 and not see it because you have ICS 212, therefore it will abort the install.

The Unstick process involves flashing GB219 files but will fail installing GB219 kernel. The next step is to flash the kernel of the ICS leak. Now you go to recovery and apply the update to the leak and it will see the GB219 files and the ICS kernel, and therefore it will update the phone.

can anyone provide a video of updating from one leak to another on youtube or sumthin because i am a visual learner better than a literary learner... please. i am noticing things are missing like adding homescreens and a delay in sum stuff...

I worked out a shorter jump method and a simplified D4 tool for ics only. Should have it posted up in about an hour or so.

Am I totally screwed until 4.0.4 Fastboot if I'm on .213 and removed some core /system apps? I'd like to get to either Stock Gingerbread to follow the initial instructions or .215 but both recoveries fail updating :/

Did you try just reflashing 213? You can't just flash one leak over another and you can't go back to GB.

Can I flash .213 over .213? I'll definitely give that a go if it's possible. Because if I can't go back to Gingerbread and can't find a way to get to .215 with missing /system files I'm afraid I'm kinda stuck

You can install the same update zip over itself, so 213 will go right over 213. Might fail depending on what you deleted. If so you can try my tool for ics only. See link in signature.

Yeah it doesn't like that I removed BackupAssistant (****ing Verizon apps)... is there any chance I could get the /system to pass verification if I restored a dump of these files? More so, does anyone have a dump of the .213 files?

Just start the process over: flash 219 , flash 213 kernel, then apply 213 update via recovery. That way you'll get your stock apps back and will be able to apply the 213 update.

The large red text on page 1 sort of gave me the idea this wasn't ideal... I'm replacing the system apps using this dump but if for some reason it still fails, green light on the Gingerbread fastboot?

EDIT: Bootloop... you we're saying what about restarting the process?

First off you can never "update" from a leak to another leak, as in downloading the latest leak and installing it from recovery. Since every single leak is designed to upgrade GB .219, if you have something else you may as well have formatted /system and have nothing in it....same results.

The only people who can "update" to .215 are people still on GB .219.

For everyone else (on leak .200, .206, .208, .211, etc....) you have to use the tools to migrate from one leak to the next. This "fakes" the update process by rewriting the GB .219 /system partition out so when the update checks for GB .219 it sees it and proceeds. You can not actually boot back in to GB, but you can push what's needed to your phone and then push the new .215 kernel to your phone....and then allow the update process to update your phone.

Remember....these leaks are not ROMs...they are only patch files to the files already on your phone. They are made to patch GB .219 and bring it up to whatever version the leak you are installing. They don't write out new /system files, they patch the /system files already there.

Went to install the D4.6.16.215 and said "Finding update package... Opening update package... Verifying update package... E:signature verification failed installation aborted."

I also tried D4.6.16.213 and the same thing happened. any help? I wiped user data, uninstalled safe-strap, deleted logwrapper, and renamed logwrapper.bin to logwrapper.

I also tried to go back and fastboot back to 219 but when I open rsd lite and select the package the option of decompress and start flashing is greyed out.

Flash the GB .219 .sbf and then use the update to go to ICS .215.
