ICS on the MAXX

Alright, I set the lock screen to pin and reinstated widgetlocker. It works a lot than go locker. I still have to type in the pin to go to the camera from the lock screen, but at least I can go straight to it. Added a beautiful clock / weather widget and I am good to go.

WidgetLocker is awesome.

I hate the new small keyboard, way harder to text than GB keyboard. Always find myself hitting the suggested words on top when I have to reach for a top row keyboard. You would assume that a phone with a bigger screen that you would be able to text more accurately, guess not.

Also, the native e-mail client on Android still sucks after the update, you still can't make it so when you delete a message on your phone it doesn't delete it on the server. Lots of customization left out, was hoping they would address this with ICS but I guess not either. They did fix it so I could delete accounts from the e-mail app itself, which is very nice. It eliminates going all the way through the menu to the accounts page, saves about 30 seconds of your time.

hey guys. having issues with ICS update. i did root my phone some time back but all i did was install a wireless tether.
so i did as much reading on here to see what i could do to fix it.
i did a FDR and nothing.
i messed up and didn't save an orginal copy, am i hosed?
i installed the voodoo root keeper, still nothing.
i think i did a few other things but i kept trying to install ALLLLLL day!
i did see a post about downloading it directly or something, but i haven't found that link. could someone point me in the right direction?
i also have 1 question, should i even get the ICS update? the reason i ask is, all i want to do is delete the bloat ware. that's about it. i can install FoxFi, it works great. the only other app i really miss is the wired tether from Chevy1 roms. i tried Kouchs wired tether but it only last's 14 days and it doesn't work as well as the installed on that Chevy1 rom. man that app was sweet. 1 issue i have with putting a custom rom on my maxx is, Safestrap won't work. i can get bootstrap to work, but both available roms both ask for safestrap. any help there?
anyways, thanks for any help!

Search for Matt's utility 1.7...
Its either here on Droid forums or razor forums..
I don't have a link handy, but it has everything to get you squared away.

I searched for weeks way back for a keyboard I could easily read and use, after trying many and changing fonts etc. I found
BB "Big Buttons Keyboard". Over the last cpl years he has made many improvements and now that's the first thing I do on a new phone is grab my "BB". I love the fact that you you can set to always show the keys in UPPER CASE which makes them so much easier to see, and of course it has a shift with indicator and lock if needed. Predictions etc and it's own library of words to add to and edit.

I have no connection with it what so ever except I would be lost with out it. ')
Take a look.
Thanks

I use Swype so there isn't a problem with a small keyboard.

Battery doesn't last as long as it did prior to the update. IMO

I agree. I'm trying different settings and all that, but when I see someone that has the razr and their battery is lasting as long as my maxx then surely there's something I can do.

I received notice of another update ota. I'm going to download then return....brb

Eta: when I went to settings to pull the update the message disappeared. I should have done a screen shot. *face palm*

May have just been them sending notifications out that ICS is available. After all I am almost positive there are those out there that have no clue about the update.

(DR0ID RAZ® M@XX)

I was looking at my system build when just for fun I went to system updates and the update popped up.

Should I go update to ICS?

Based on all of the negative comments about ics and the fact I bought this phone for the battery I am a little concerned.

Clueless and concerned.

This post is from another thread where someone was questioning whether or not they should update to ICS, and it's a point that's very well said:

Don't use the forums of a measure of how happy people are with something. People are here to talk about problems and issues often, and if they are happy, they are out playing with their phone and not posting about it.

Moto wouldn't have released it if the testing surveys were all negative. ICS is awesome. Upgrade. You are wasting brain power even thinking about it. Hit the button.

"GB" is just as "flawed" (well, moreso, imo)...but those flaws - people have been dealing with for the past 8 months - so the fervor has died down in these parts or people have learned to live with them or adjust to them. This is just a different set of usage adjustments.

As noted in that post, people who have issues will be far more vocal than those who don't. Also, keep in mind that many of the complaints you're seeing come from people who aren't as knowledgeable about Android. That's not a knock against them in any way, because knowing the ins and outs of the system isn't something that everyone wants to do or has the time to do. But when there's a big update like this, you'll see a large influx of new users on the site who don't exactly know how everything works, and so they talk about bugs, problems, or missing features when the bugs/problems are often user error (completely unknown to the user), are due to a botched installation, or that the features have simply moved somewhere else. People don't like change, especially when change involves completely revamping what they're used to. That doesn't make it a bad update, it just means that not everyone is going to know how to take the proper steps to ensure a clean update along with being able to address issues that might come up. Now, if you were to see many long time forum members talking about major problems with the update, then you might want to take a closer look at things. But so far with ICS, that hasn't been the case.

I haven't had a single problem with ICS. Everything works the same as it did on Gingerbread or better. Is that to say that the update is perfect? No, because no update ever is. But it's an extremely stable build that's devoid of any major problems. Most major problems that come up are, like I said, almost always due to user error or a botched installation. That's not always the case, but it is in the overwhelming majority of situations. Personally, I don't think there's any reason to wait for the update. Unless you root and make some changes, you're going to have to accept the update eventually anyway. I say go ahead and do it now while there's a lot of people active on the site who can help if problems do come up.
