ICS on the MAXX

I know a few people that have the razr and the maxx that know absolutely nothing about smartphones. They just like to buy the best. I try to teach them about all the cool features and they will never understand it. I tell them to come here and see what they can do with these phones.

I haven't had a single problem with ICS. Everything works the same as it did on Gingerbread or better.

Under Settings / Battery, do you get Battery Usage Data to indicate which apps used what % of the battery?

Under Settings / Data Usage, does it show the correct mobile data, WiFi and Ethernet usage?

I've stopped helping all my friends at this point. They buy a new phone, call me and want me to teach them the phone (even i-fone users). When their eyes glaze over, I know I'm wasting my time.
They won't read a manual or get info from the internet. One expected me to read the manual and then teach them. One finds out who friends are when you cut them off from free tech support. The parasites get weeded out quickly.

Thank you for all of the advice. I went ahead and upgraded to ICS today.
I have nothing to report except the install went smoothly.

A big THANK YOU to bsweetness. My impulse is always to upgrade to the latest software ota but I wanted to make sure.
The Maxx is awesome and I wanted it to stay that way.

After a couple of days I can say this one of the best updates ever. The phone is now the phone that should it should have been. (there I said it!) ;-)

The thing is fast and stable and I haven't had any lockups or problems. I've loaded and deleted dozens of apps, played with 4 different launchers. The dialer is a little odd but all the parts are there just gotta look for stuff.

Battery is the same, I got 14 hours with 7 hour screen time, not freaking bad at all.
I didn't do a hard reset before the update but I wonder if i should have, due to all the changes, and the mess of apps i have installed. I bet that may be the root of most peoples problems.

Yes, the battery usage data is there. Since this has been a feature Android has had for a very long time, I don't see them removing that.

Yes, the data usage appears to be accurate. WiFi and ethernet usage are not shown by default, but you can enable them.

How do you enable them?

Ah ha, thanks!

It's something else how many more options there are if you hit the menu button in and around various sections of the settings. I think it's a little counterintuitive, because you already have the settings open, so you don't always think about having to hit an off-screen menu button in order to get to more settings (especially since it doesn't saying anything, or even give you a hint, about hitting "menu" for more settings).

My guess is that it's Google's way of nudging manufacturers towards on-screen buttons. With no hardware buttons, the menu button will appear on-screen when there are further menu options, and it will not be there if there aren't any options. So, you'll know if there are more settings that you can't directly see. On a device with hardware buttons, there's no clean, easy way to indicate to the user that hitting the menu button will provide more options in a specific situation, or that it doesn't in another situation.

Looks like "blacked out Google". Comes in a few ROMs, and can probably be found in an apk. I can probably find a link later...
