iPAD ruins Android's chances if you ask me...

Maybe I'm missing something, but why is everyone really craving watching TV shows and movies on their little 3.5" Droid screens via netflix or hulu streaming?

That's one thing I never understood about that iPhone commercial where the woman turns on Finding Nemo for her kids at the airport (or something like that). Is Apple really trying to sell the idea that a couple of kids (hell, even adults!) would sit in front of a small screen for 90 minutes?

Most hulu shows are only 22 minutes...I can see watching one of those while waiting for a Meeting or something. Netflix also has TV shows...a much better selection that Hulu or TV.com have.

BTW...there is a free TV.com app; I watched a couple shows with that.

This device is the coolest gadget I own right now. I'm selling my laptop, ebook reader, and archos movie player on ebay right now

"This device is the coolest gadget I own right now"

Just because it is "Cool" does not mean it is good. Usually, cool means "Dumb" (bell bottoms, pet rocks, cigarettes)...I would say the iPad is the coolest device of the year...the coolest thing apple has made in years! Even cooler than the iPhone 3GS...and the 3GS is certainly cool because it smokes (when the battery overheats).

The droid isn't cool...it is too smart.

I'm not being sarcastic whatsoever. I was a very big skeptic but honestly this device is beyond awesome. Yes it doesn't have some things but honestly one great thing about not having all those things is the battery lasts forever. I've been using this thing nonstop on auto brightness, watched a two hour movie, surfed a ton of Internet, downloaded a bunch of games and apps (about a gig worth), played the games for about an hour, used a bunch of other things...and i am still at 52% battery. Graphics are amazing...transitions and whatnot are smooth as hell. Haven't found anything i don't like yet.

Sounds like my HP Mini 311 w/ nVidia Ion running Linux. Only without all the Apple restrictions.

I hate apple and i still don't feel restricted.

Why don't you go watch a flash movie? Or maybe you could try listening to some music while you write a document (something that my winmo5 iPaq can do)...then you will feel restricted. That thing costs more than a netbook and has less capability.

BTW...From what you have said, it has about the same battery life as a modern netbook (on a non-replacable battery with a manufacturing problem...enjoy spending $100 to get a battery+device replaced every few months).

Google got caught with it's pants down again as the iPAD has the latest killer aps like Netflix and Hulu. A port to the iPhone won't be far behind. I've been complaining about the lack of video on Android (youtube sucks) and this pretty much puts the nail in the coffin. Once the iPhone comes to Verizon I will be dumping my Droid. I am sorry, I am disgusted that a company like Google feels that 10 minute youtube videos are cool, when in fact they are annoying and pathetic in 2010.

Without apps like Netflix, Android which is a good OS will be relegated to a very distant second citizen...

To quote boxing to be the champ you've got to BEAT the champ. Android doesn't beat the champ (apple) in the OS game, it might be a little better in some things, but overall Apple wins again.
iPad ruins android? What you smoking? ipad is wifi-less! Maybe later they can release a good one, lol!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3OxXLjoWVY"]YouTube - Hitler Responds to the Apple iPad

Do you really think that Android won't power a decent tablet that overcomes many of the iPad's shortcomings by the autumn lead into the X-mas buying season? Do you really want to live in Steve Job's walled garden where you can't have an app unless Steve Jobs says it's OK? You don't want a removable battery? You want proprietary ports instead of USB? You don't want a camera? An SD card slot?

The iPad is cool and Steve Jobs is a marketing genius but he is also a control freak and I don't want to be at the other end of his leash. I like my Droid and I will like my Android tablet when it is ready. In the mean time I have a netbook for travel and a very nice notebook for home and local use. I can wait.

UHH being done dude. google WePad...

Edit: ill just do it for you :) WePad - WePad Details and Plans Revealed

they already have an android tablet

ARCHOS

it may not the best or surpass the ipad but its nice

and in my opinion to all of this is apple is very good yes but, that is because it has the on board storage to run all these fancy apps that take 10-200+ megs, and thats like pocket change to the amount of space compared to a droid, where it has around 250megs but google is starting to get better looking apps and also you have to think to it would be easier to develop apps for apples devices cause its all the same os, resolution, and more space on the device where as google has many different devices that have different os, resolutions, and smaller space to work with, which i would have to give more credit to the devs on android to be able to make as good of apps for being only kilobytes in size (most of the time) plus there are many other features that android is amazing for as all android user would know such as folders and widget and being able to place an app shortcuts anywhere you want instead of a grid that makes it hard to find apps sometimes

but i guess it all depends on on the users preference on what they want still think android will win the battle unless apple comes out with a variety of devices for different user preference

sorry if this doesnt make make too much sense im half asleep

You're so off I am not even sure where to begin:

1. You can't watch a Flash movie on many devices. It doesn't really bother me on my Droid and it doesn't bother me on my iPad either.

2. You can listen to music and multitask. The things you can't multitask don't bother me, and they are coming out in the OS 4.0 update anyhow.

3. A netbook is a piece of junk, which is why they barely sell compared to an iPad. I had the same view until I bought an iPad. The netbook is basically an condensed laptop. It isn't designed from the ground up so the device is not made to run like a slate tablet.

4. A new battery every couple of months? lol Give me a break.

Archos ****ing sucks. I have an Archos tablet already. The battery life is good and the storage is awesome. However:

1. Customer service is completely non-existent. They are french, don't reply to emails, hold times are over an hour at least, and they are idiots.

2. I bought two things from Archos, both came with at least one stuck pixel on the screen, but they won't replace it because they say it's normal because they use low quality screens. One was green and one was red. So have fun watching a dark movie with an annoying crappy screen.

3. Every device you buy from them you MUST buy codecs separately. So if you want to watch an Xvid AVI - 20 bucks. You want to watch something with AC3 encoding? 20 bucks. They nickel and dime you to DEATH.

4. The touch screen is horrendous on the Archos products. So horrible that mine became a movie tablet only because surfing the internet, typing, etc was so terrible.

Trust me, nothing Archos makes comes even CLOSE to competing with the iPad. Plus the newer Archos products have less storage than the old ones and are still close to 500 bucks before you even buy the extra codecs etc. Not to mention the horrid reviews they generally get.

- Call someone with your iPad
- Change the keyboard, music app, messaging app, theme with your iPad
- Overclock your iPad
- Drag and Drop music to your iPad without bloated iTunes
- Store some files on your iPad like a USB stick
- Take some pictures with your iPad
- Swap out batteries on a long trip with your iPad
- Swap out SD cards on your iPad
- Get a good 3G signal everywhere with your iPad

And I won't add it to the list but can you change your wallpaper on an iPhone/iPad yet?
