ya know wood, I'm with ya on this one. I've spent the better part of the day worrying about this. I could have been doing better things LOL I'm reinstalling 5.7.893 and being done with it. If an actual update ever comes out and this one aint it I'm sure eventually there will be a way out or a way to update.
I have to go to work in 1.5hrs so I better get going trying to reinstall everything. Take care all and I'll still check things out to see where this leads.

Good luck and Im gonna wait til morning but Im gonna do it again. Your wright there has always been a way out sinceD1 were getting our selves worked up over nothing but it was fun wasnt it. lol

Hey man, no problem. Again, nothing is 100% guaranteed in the world of motorola and updates lol. But more and more evidence is mounting towards 893 being official. So at this point, i think best approach is to just forget about it, no more worries, and we just wait :) If it turns out that this isn't true, well then we'll figure out what to do for those of us that want to get the official update. As i have stated in the past, motorola will allow you to send them your phone and will flash whatever is the latest update free of charge so there is always that fallback option in the event things this isn't true. So that said, no need to worry :) have a good night

Dont put money on it but like Cam says if it aint there will always be a way out the devs wont let us down. Besides if it is it still didnt fix the problem anyway

that is just another "test" version that moto released in trying to see what would work best for the final version. Apparently, after test results, motorola decided that 5.7.893 is more optimal and is gong to release that as the official one. This is the best explanation i can provide, but it seems to be correct, as new uesrs buying phones are now finding their phone on 5.7.893 out of the box AND moto told me that my phone had the latest update when i called them. There's just too many versions floating around, and too mny people trying too many different things, with varying "results", so its leading to complete chaos and confusion. I blame motoroal myself, cause they can't just be straightforward and tell us outright what the version is or if there will be problems for people that applied a certain update manually.

All that said, all this back and forth and speculation is just making people crazy and i think its leading to much wasted time. Anyways, I am bowing out of this thread, good luck all. I believe the info I have provided is correct but feel free to keep searching for the truth, lol, whatever that may be.

The truth is out there!

I think the problems people have with data are another issue. Since i put on the leak ive had NO data issues (before i did) I believe its verizon and the network having problems. Im in Austin Tx and its worked near-flawless since i patched to 5.7.893. There was one day it lost data but i think it was just the network.

So can anyone tell me why I can't update to 5.7.893?

I was on 5.6.893 and had to flash back to stock. I used dhackers guide to get me back and rooted again. Tried downloading and applying the 5.7 update and get the status 7 failure. Then I tried applying the 5.6 update and that failed as well

To O.P.
Are you sure the update wasn't something you did previously, and left on your SD card? I downloaded and installed a leaked update version when they first started coming out. By just putting the zip file on my stock UN-rooted Bionic. My screen went out a couple weeks later so I got a replacement phone, and they don't come with a new SD cards so I just put in my old card. When I finally got the new phone to boot up and program it started to come up with the update alert just like it was an OTA update, but I figured out it was just the zip file I had from before.

You can also do it through the Android SDK, although it is a pain just to take a screenshot.

I took a screenshot earlier without being rooted with the screenshot app. It just said I have to be rooted and took the pic anyways. In the description of the app the dev said sometimes it works without root.
