LauncherPro Beta (SUPER FAST & SMOOTH Launcher!)

Best Memory Usage Setting

I'm using a Moto Droid. I'm wondering what is the best Memory Usage setting for the Droid if I want the smoothest, fastest experience.

If you find any settings that work on a 550 MHz Froyo Droid, I'd be interested! AFAIK, there's no way to get truly smooth operation, especially with the latest releases of Launcher Pro.

I'm on moderate right now. Actually it wasn't set on anything after the last update. It's been pretty good.
Depends how many screens and widgets you're using too.

is anyone still having an issue with apps2sd apps losing their icons until you restart the launcher? i could have sworn this was fixed...

LP fix for redraws / slow response

OK!

I finally found a way to make LP work reasonably well - At least as fast as the Froyo stock launcher, and maybe better! dancedroid

The biggest problems I saw were constant screen redraws and slow response time. Here is what I found to fix these problems: Fine tuning the MinFree settings (improving on Android's multitasking) | Android Central

MinFree is a free application that modifies how your Droid handles free memory. I use BBv0.4, and I'm guessing that the values Pete set didn't play well for LP - at least for me.

Once you load MinFree, go to Menu >> Presets, and select "Aggressive". After you fool with it for awhile and like what you see, you can set Menu >> Apply at Boot.

Then, under the LP Preferences, I set the following:

  • General Settings: Keep in Memory=On, Motorola Droid hack=Off
  • Advanced Settings
    • Memory Usage Settings: Memory Usage Preset=High
      • Use homescreen caches=On
      • Homescreen cache type=Compressed
      • Build caches as needed=Off
      • Clear caches on exit=Off
      • Prevent force-closes=Off
  • Homescreens: High quality scrolling=On, Minimum Scrolling Speed=25
  • App Drawer: Use 3D Drawer=On, Opening speed=2
  • Screen Previews: Opening speed=2
Note: I still see the occasional "missed screen press" on the launcher screens, but it doesn't seem as bad now.

Let me know if this helps!

Cheers,

AzJazz

@ shochman, after testing ADW, i can say that is BS. why come troll?
i get the same redraws, and less customizations. LP is a far superior product. way more you can do.

I guess it depends on you phone and setup. I've been using both LP and ADW, and recently I've found ADW to be much less bothersome as far as redraws and fc's. Earlier releases of LP were much more stable.
