Manually installing a Factory Firmware Update (which is what THIS update is) DOES NOT EFFECT FUTURE UPDATES.

Should the file name read Update.zip when you check the properties?

that's not good... I would try... deleting the update.zip from your SD card - Re-downloading the file - then writing it back to your SD card - and... running it again. Sorry, that's all I can think of...

It re-ran just fine on my phone...

I was just looking through my installed applications with the filter set on all and I have getting 2 camera apps. Anyone else getting this?

Also theres a bunch of new stuff listed in here now such as 'Sound Recorder'

Installed without a problem. But is it just me, or is reception worse compared to 2.0? My 3G signal is pretty bad (used to be 4 - full bars), and speeds are no where close to what it was before because now I only get 1 -2 bars.

The update didnt hack into the root. Gizmo jumped the gun when they said that.

I paid $199 at the store, mailed in the rebate making it a $99 phone. I asked why it was so cheap and I got a shut up look... I think I got lucky. I had been promised they would save a dock for me and someone sold it so maybe that's why.

After rebate I paid $99 for it

If the latter, then I may be entitled to another cool hundred...

Droids are $199.00 with plan renewal, and then $100 rebate. You got nothing special...
Sorry to burst your bubble! Those paying $299 are not renewing contracts.

Regardless, I'd say these phones are worth as much or more as we pay.

Does our phones give any indication that they've been pinged? I'm wondering if they (VZW) do this for anything other than updates. Big Brother watching for instance?

thats funny, mine is actually a lot better, i was getting 1-2 bars now i have 3-4 lol
