Manually Update to 2.0.1

$600 retail. $200 with new activation...

But who's counting?

$300 at the store, $100 mail in rebate, since we are counting, thats still $300 i had to have when i was at verizon, aka $300 phone

My point was that if you break it and void the warranty/insurance it will cost 600 to replace.

But, I managed to leave the verizon store by paying $200. No mail in.
Weird.

oh, well then that is very weird, but yeah, i guess if you had to repurchase it outright it would be $600, sorry i got a little defensive

I paid $199 at the store, mailed in the rebate making it a $99 phone. I asked why it was so cheap and I got a shut up look... I think I got lucky. I had been promised they would save a dock for me and someone sold it so maybe that's why.

After rebate I paid $99 for it :)

Eris or MotoDroid?
If the latter, then I may be entitled to another cool hundred...

Make sure you trust your .zip file source. I wouldn't want to install the rooted zip and have app issues.

On another note im on DROID 3 right now, and I noticed my Red Eye pre 2.0.1 is much larger then the one on the first two. Prettymuch the same size as the one on the box. Did people with the small eye get the bigger one on the 2.0.1 update? Im wondering what else is different with this phone than the first two...??

ahhh, yeah, my dad just had that happen with his blackberry, it was supposed to be $205 with $100 rebate, he paid $105 with $100 rebate, they do that sometimes, basically you are just double dipping with the rebate, they take it off in store AND let you mail it in

DONT USE SAFARI TO DOWNLOAD THIS! AUTOMATICALLY UNZIPS AND SAVES AS DIRECTORY! THIS WILL AUTOMATICALLY CAUSE A VERIFICATION ISSUE.

I rattled my head around this for about an hour. Used Firefox and all worked fine!

*sighs* anyone konw what the hell is wrong? Still getting this message when the exact file name of the file is "update.zip" on the home directory of the sdcard. The .zip is the file extension. So in otherwords when I unhide the file extensions on my PC the whole file name is indeed update.zip and I stil get this message...

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Meticode, are you on a Mac?
If so, are your safari preferences set to "Open Safe Files?" If so, uncheck that box. You DON'T want to open them. This might be extracting the zip file. If you are renaming the file that is already decompressed to a .zip file, then you are creating a conflict because the file and the file type don't match. If it has already unzipped then delete that folder, turn off the open safe files and redownload it. Rename the already zipped file and you should be rolling.

If you're not on a Mac, disregard this post.

so somebody tell me, should i do it, im not worried about the install, i know that will go fine, im worried about what will happen when my ota arrives, so should i do it or wait, i want some votes

A new version of Handcent SMS shows now in the market. It lists 2.0.1 support among one of the update features and it has restored contact pics when I tried it.

Can't remember if I've went through the welcome process...but hi! Just another happy Droid user here :)

I've seen a couple of posts about this rooting the phone - my question is: if this has rooted it, does that affect future OTA updates?

I'm just confused because people were saying 'NO! Of course not' and then rooting became a topic and I thought that roots require the ROMs to update.

Just making sure, I'd rather not have rooted the phone personally but heck, the update is AWESOME! :icon_ banana:

The OTA won't arrive if you install this. Verizon will send a signal to your phone to "ping" it to see if you need the update. When it sees that the update is already in place, it will say "Okay, it's already on this phone. Next!".

Nothing will happen, you won't get an OTA if you already have the update. It checks what version you have before sending out the OTA.
