Manually Update to 2.0.1

I think I give up. I've downloaded the file like 5 times, did everything the insructions say and I still get that message saying faile to verify the whole-file signature, Installation aborted.

Meticode, im osrry your having issues. Just so that i understand you.. when the SD card is mounted you see the file as "update.zip" or just "update"? If its says "update.zip" rename the file to just "update". The file is already a zip file without having to put .zip at the end, unfortunately its making the droid read the file as update.zip.zip.

With the PC file extensions "unhided" the whole file name with the extension and all is just update.zip. If I hide the file extension it would be just update. It's finding the file, becuase it starts the update package, then it aborts it. When I name it something different from update.zip it doesn't find the file at all and start the update.

I understand it finds the file... the same thing happen to me.. and it gave me the same error. Im asking you to to just try it the way i explained it.. you loose nothing. im not sure what you mean by "unhided".. just right click it and rename to update.

I'll just wait for the auto update. It's not working for whatever reason. It's finding the file, but aborting the installation becuase of some "whole-file signature" whatever the hell that is.

Everytime I get close to doing it I see a post like this...

Yeah the facebook error came back for me too

I just had to log into facebook again. Then it was all good. They must mean that the desktop widget didn't load, because they needed to log in again.

Nope, Im logged in, and can see the pic in my friends list, but go to news feed and its all facebook user and no pics.

I did that way before you mentioned it. So the whole file name was "update" and it wasn't even recognized as a .zip file becuase I deleted the extension. So I put that on the phone and get invalid directory.

Ah. I see what you are saying. Just noticing no profile pics on my newsfeed either. Oh well.

Motorola Droid Has Been Rooted

Motorola Droid Has Been Rooted - Droid rooted - Gizmodo

Diligent Android-tamperers have done it again—the Droid has been rooted. There aren't many practical benefits quite yet, and many apps won't work on rooted handsets, but it's a first step to all kinds of custom Droid goodness. At the moment, the only real benefit to rooting is the ability to get the Android 2.0.1 upgrade right away, and that probably won't be enough to offset the effort of rooting and the resulting incompatibility of apps (some in the Market require root) for most people. But anyone who's played around with Cyanogen's custom Android builds is cheering: This means a lot of great customizations are coming soon. [AllDroid]

just wait the two days, its not worth messing up a $300 phone

$600 retail. $200 with new activation...

But who's counting?

$300 at the store, $100 mail in rebate, since we are counting, thats still $300 i had to have when i was at verizon, aka $300 phone

My point was that if you break it and void the warranty/insurance it will cost 600 to replace.

But, I managed to leave the verizon store by paying $200. No mail in.
Weird.

Yous guys that figure this stuff out amaze me. I just updated mine and everything is working great. Thank you to all that got this going and for posting clear and simple tutorial for those of us who are tech challenged.
