Manually Update to 2.0.1

Anybody tried this on a Mac? I can't specifically find the SD card, though I believe that the mount itself is the SD card. Can anyone verify?

Updated mine last night. It took me a couple of tries until I figured out just name it "update". I downloaded the link from this forum, it has been checked by others to be the real update. Plugged in the Droid to the PC, dropped the zip folder into the memory card. I followed the directions after finding out about the file naming part. It worked OK and was very quick to process everything. I went back, plugged in my phone to the PC, deleted the zip folder as it's no longer needed. Thanks to all the people here for their help and support. As this community grows this can only get better.

i tried all options, i'm getting a triangle with an exclamation mark in it when i hold the X and power on, following the steps the end result is ' update aborted "

Your supposed to get that triangle. Once ya get to that page, click on the camera button and up volume key at the same time.

the hell you say it doesn't. mine has a verizon tab, which takes you to vcast apps.
mine has the download tab hmmmmmm

So does mineeeeee
now that was weird, I was searching around the marketplace, the phone gave me an error about the marketplace unexpectedly stopping, made the notification sound, and then the downloads tabs switched to the verizon tab :icon_eek:

it really is becoming self aware :greendroid:

Ok. I don't think I've seen this one discussed. As far as I know I'm following the instructions perfectly. I named it update.zip and not update.zip.zip, I've downloaded the file from different links and different browsers and have tried it from the computer and all on the phone, but I get the same thing every time. Here's what I get:

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("MTD:boot:[tons of letters and numbers]")
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Help would be appreciated. TIA.

Just change the name of the file to update that worked for me

No, actually it's supposed to be update.zip. Renaming it to update only helps people who don't know that their file extensions are hidden. I have it named correctly.

anybody else?

To the people with the Downloads tab, where did you get your update from?

I got mine DIRECTLY from the Google website and I still have the Verizon tab. I even cleared the cache of the Market application and still the tab is there.
I just now downloaded the zip file from here and ran the process. Rebooted, #228/#2 and rebooted again. All is well.

I have the download tab - VZW is now gone. Have rebooted 3 times (shift/alt/del) and no change - download tab. So - I guess that's how they want it now? Can anyone that was pushed the update confirm whether they have the Verizon or Download tab?

I don't like the lock button, took me 2 swipes to open. Still used to sweeping in an arc. That's a reflex action that will go away after normal use.

I don't see any speed boosts on apps opening - pulling down notification bar is jerky where before it was smooth. Sweeping home screen left or right seems about the same.

What I did notice a dramatic difference in is scrolling up or down. My screen was very sensitive before, it was difficult scrolling without opening an app. Now it works like a charm. No accidental apps opening. I like this!

Maps are quicker at redrawing. I see a full screen map instantly now instead of seeing pieces of the map as they load.

Deleting mail on secondary accounts (optimium email) takes 15 seconds now or more - before they were gone in a blink. Hmmm.

I'll work through the day and see what effect if any on my daily apps used (Docs to Go being the most important).

Up to date with 2.01 - mikey

I downloaded the update directly from my phone. It was a successful download. I tried the camera and it took pictures much faster than before. Thanks guys.

Did the 2.0.1 update last night when it was first released on this forum. So far the phone is running much faster! Home++ is running well, facebook is working after fine now (I suspect FB was having issues last night too because I went the site and was having refresh issues), contacts show all the pictures, Handcent has all my messages and contact pictures as well. I also did the *228 option 2 to update my roaming list. So far I am liking the update.

Thanks for sharing!

This is prob a dumb question but... we are operating on Android 2.0....... and our firmware is also 2.0 "before the update"....

So are we updating just our firmware to the phone or Android itself?
My best guess is this is a Android update since screens etc are being changed...

But the phone clearly states the firmware has been updated?

Sorry, I'm new to all this still.
