Manually Update to 2.0.1

Ok, why am I now only displaying 4 contacts? I have a hell of a lot more than that!
Go to display options under contacts.
Have done so. for some reason it is only listing 3 that start with "C" and one that starts with "L". If I do a search, the contacts are still found, but cannot see them on the list. I can add all the fb contact, but I cannot find how to show a list of manually programed ones.

Nevermind, found it. Thank you!

Ok. I don't think I've seen this one discussed. As far as I know I'm following the instructions perfectly. I named it update.zip and not update.zip.zip, I've downloaded the file from different links and different browsers and have tried it from the computer and all on the phone, but I get the same thing every time. Here's what I get:

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("MTD:boot:[tons of letters and numbers]")
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Help would be appreciated. TIA.

Just change the name of the file to update that worked for me

I tried every which way and i keep getting the same above read-out

I got the same thing when downloaded with Chrome. The I downloaded with explore. For some reason when I downloaded it with chrome it was 1k, after I downloaded it with explorer it was 10,000 mb. I also found the file location, renamed, and did not move to desktop like the first time. It worked the second time.

I hate to say it, I'm a computer guru, and had flashed my V3, and V9 many times, fooled with flexes as well, but I think after throwing $$$ to get the droid and my wife's LG Chocolate touch, I'm just hesitant about something that in my mind I know is a simple process ...

Seems to me that one could conceivably incurr the same issues encountered by either doing the manual update, or the OTA. Only way to tell would be for someone to do a comparison from an update file pushed and the one's currently available. My guess is that they're the same, just that no EU intervention is required as deeply for the OTA.

So count it as me having a bit of a confidence issue with my new friend at the moment, I'll wait for the OTA, but Damn! I'm soooooooooo tempted. Maybe if I don't see it by Friday noon ... :)

!!!!!!! Ok, I couldn't stand it !!!!!!

Went and upgraded it.

All seems well, firmware and baseband report what the thread indicates they should be after the update.

I also did *228 option 1 and 2.

Had downloads in market, back to verizon after a reboot with batt pull.

I didn't have the gallery icon issue (unless that was with a shortcut, I only use the one in the pull up menu right now).

Haven't tested on my wi fi yet, bit like it! Unlock screen looks nice to me, agreed perhaps they could have stayed with the wheel approach, but for something you use only for seconds each time, it is really something to worry about? I think the clock and positioning is fine, just MO.

Google maps wanted to update, will look at other apps as well.

Whew! :)

*228, then option 1 to program and 2 to update roaming. Waited about 30 minutes, then rebooted the device.

Speedtest results show 2161kbps down and 710kbps up. Amazing :)

do you need to do option 1?

i did *228 and option 2 and i havent had any issues at all, is there some improvement that option 1 will make?

The manual update worked flawlessly for me. It took about 90 seconds to reboot and now i'm in business. Transition between screens is noticeably smoother. I actually prefer the new lock screen over the older one but they should allow you to pick which one you prefer.

BTW, I tested my dolphin browser, no lag in my opinion, I used gizmodo, loaded the mobile by default, switched to the classic. Takes a bit to load, wasnt on my wifi but I felt that it was fairly fast scrolling down the articles which have pics. I caveat that with that this is my first TS smartphone though...
