Manually Update to 2.0.1

failed to read footer from /sdcard/update.zip

Ideas?
try with no zip?
it may be adding that so you end up .zip.zip

Even checked properties...
It's update.zip
i even just tried just update.. nada...
Guess I'll wait.

Are you getting this message after selecting "apply update.zip"?
Mine had a message saying it couldn't open something (didn't pay attention to what) when it first booted into recovery mode. But when I selected "apply update.zip" it completed with no errors and works just fine.

Ya I get that message after I click apply update.zip

I would try downloading the file with a different browser or even better, a different computer. Sounds like the file's hash check isn't passing muster. Possibly the browser or some other application (compression utility running as a service, or even anti virus) on that computer is altering the file in some way. Or now that it's the 11th maybe just wait for the OTA, though I'm far too impatient for that solution. :)

Yeah the mp3 is what I am referring to, I have so many friends that like the ringtones I make with a program called Audacity and yet I can't send them through mms like I have been able to since....well...I got my 1st cell phone :frown: . I am sure it will be addressed in a future update or maybe even somehow fixed with an app or the Droid being rooted may lead to some solution. Only time will tell....

Thanks,
Hank

Just think, you could have bought an iPhone when they first came out and waited almost 2 years before MMS was available... ;)

I just sent XXfire the file and its good.. proven by another user I sent the exact same file too..... I also sent instructions.

Don't be hasty when messing with firmware.. just go slow and methodical... one mistake and it doesn't work.

So i got a new phone after my old droid failed to recognize the update, and was just generally buggy. Get home last night and im ready to install the update, when the OTA comes in LOL. I have to say so far I am extremely happy with the improvements.

The update (got it OTA last night, installed this morning) resets your backlight settings. Go set your backlight to Auto brightness and you will see the soft keys light up again as before, at least when it is dark enough (cover the top-right corner of the screen with your thumb).

The OTA update has no Verizon button in Market; it has the Downloads button instead. I suspect it's the same update everyone has been doing as found on page 1 of this thread.
Firmware version: 2.0.1
Baseband version: C_01.3E.01P
Kernel version: 2.6.29-omap1-g0dd7e0b android-build@apa26 #511
Build number: ESD56

XXFIRE, where are you getting that error message?

I thinik all of us got the message way down at the bottom that said something like couldn find sd\cache or something like that...

Just ignore that error.. use your volume switch and scroll down one spot to where it says "apply update.zip" and hit the gold enter key on your physical keyboard.

when its all done.. hit it one more time to reboot.

Eventually the Verizon buttons comes back. I also only had the Download button as noted in my earlier post, but at some point after than and today, the Verizon button replaced it.

OK, Thanks, I had many issues last night, with phone rebooting, showing a bootloader screen, showing "no signal", "phone not registered on network", battery dying quick etc. I seemed to have these issues both before and after the manual update. I did a data reset to factory and things seem better for now. Not sure why. (Although still fluctuates between 1X and 3G at my house and it seems to be worse at getting a signal than my old phone). No programs currently loaded.

If I have a "bad phone" with these internmittent issues how do you get a new one? I purchased it on-line. Do I call verizon first and maybe do the exchange through the mail, or do I need to go to a Verizon service center and if so, is it hard to convince them of the issues since they are kind of random and may be hard to prove.

TIA,
Telstar_2112

You can still get it serviced at a genuine Verizon service center.
You will have to get something they can reproduce normally... I think you can take it back unconditionally up to 30 days from when you bought this phone, if they won't give you another.. you could go to another service center and get a new one....

Its usually best to call ahead and talk to someone that tells you what you need to hear.. take down their name and when you go there, talk to them so they can pull strings for you.
