Motorola Droid Bionic Joins the Droid Family!

Sanjay said Q2 at CES, in the video just a half hour ago. Hopefully that means early Q2. March?

Q2nd quarter is April-June.

12 months.. four quarters.

Not exactly. Fiscal year starts Oct 1. So, Fiscal Q1 is Oct - Dec, which makes Q2 Jan - Feb. I'm hoping their references are to the fiscal calendar and see the phone by the end of Feb....meaning I'd be able to jump on it right away in March. Can anyone confirm if Verizon / Motorola are speaking in terms of fiscal or calendar terms?

Verizon goes quarterly..Not fiscally.

Fiascal years would'nt work.. because if they meant 2nd quarter on a fiscal year...you'd see it the second half of the year...Being...it s fiscal

I've never once heard quarter references about a company's fiscal year. Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 have always meant the months divided into 3s, starting from January

Ditto, unless you're talking financials.

fiscal is an accounting term. The only difference between regular and fiscal calendar is when Q1 begins. Fiscal calendar is Oct. 1 and regular is Jan. 1

yep. it would be virtually impossible to make any kind of comparison between two company's if quarter references had to do with individual fiscal years.

i know what fiscal is. I'm saying in terms of market research, quarters don't refer to fiscal quarters. They've always referred to three month periods starting in Jan.

For example, if Apple traditionally has a great Oct-Dec, and that's their Q1 fiscal, it wouldnt be fair to compare those sales to another company who might tradtionally have a bad Oct-Dec.

Fiscal years are internal, you don't refer to them in comparison to other companies.

Dude....Quarterly, and fiscally are two completely different things.

"Verizon had a great 1st half to their fiscal year thanks to 2nd quarter sales of the Droid Bionic'

Get it?

12 months... 4 quarters......

Fiscal is between a 6 month bracket. So when Apple states "we had a good fiscal year", they are talking the previous 6-8 months...or two quarter sales reports.

Thus.. 2nd quarter.... April-June.

Hope that clears it up.

2nd post is what i mean...damn no editing feature haha

I hear ya. I can only speak from the experience I have with the company I work for and when we deliver new products, the fiscal calendar is referenced, despite the communication not having anything to do with fiscal performance.....as it is used as a general operating calendar.

I guess this means that we won't see Bionic until Apr-Jun then.... :icon_evil:

wrong, as a fiscal year is a full year, a complete 4 quarters of fiscal operation, but not arguing this point any longer. ; )

back on topic. Was just hoping to see Bionic by March. :)

I'm going to say 4/5/11 will be the release day. Lord willing, don't quote me.

It's a Tuesday...typical Droid release day..

No. Fiscal year refers to a company's budget year. It's still one year (12 months) but it's not necessarily a calendar year (Jan-Dec). It can be Oct-Sept, Nov-Oct, Dec-Nov. or any other 12 month period including Jan-Dec.

A quarter is just any 3 month period. A fiscal quarter would be a 3 month period in a company's fiscal year.

Not every company has the same fiscal year.
