Motorola Droid Bionic Release Date?

I guess I was lucky since I got to use someone else's upgrade to get my dx in january and then I have my lines upgrade due in september which with all the delays could be just in time for the bionic or maybe the next phone thats better than the bionic. Who knows, but I'm extremely happy with my droid x until september.

I can't stand my storm and once I get something in my head, getting a new phone, I won't stop until I do it. So since I didn't want to waste my NE2, which I am not able to use until May, I decided to go around my contract and look on E-bay, Swappa, and Craigslist for one. I just bought one on Ebay for little more than I wanted (305) but at least I can still use my NE2 until Nov. By then hopefully the bugs will be worked out of the DB or maybe the DX2. This was just to get me by and get rid of the storm. Plus from what I hear I won't be disappointed about the purchase.

Sanjaye (Moto CEO) already said DB will be out at end of Q2. That means around June.

Especially with the debacle over the TBolt right now (set to be released in Q1 and everyone was assuming mid/late Feb and it seems like it will now be around mid March (give or take a few days)), I would expect the DB to be released mid-late June at best or even early July if delays are expected (ie like the TBolt with its supposed battery life causing a delay)

I know this is true. However, the Atrix (also released by Moto) has had very few problems from what I've heard, and it is very similar to the Bionic. Could the CEO simply be learning from what HTC screwed up on? Allowing people to believe a date earlier than expected is probably going to crush sales. I feel like the Bionic should release early simply because they've already made an extremely similar phone, with very little trouble. However, this is completely speculation. I really hope it comes out in April, because I don't believe I'll be able to purchase it and a new contract while I'm in La Paz, Mexico (which thankfully has 3G)

I am in the same boat as others, was sold on the Thunderbolt, but the longer Verizon delays the release, I'm thinking Bionic may be the way to go....not sure about the slider though, hope it holds up well.....I'm hoping they are both released SOON so I have to make a decision..its time to upgrade, but getting sick of waiting...in a BIG WAY.

What are your impressions...Bionic or Thunderbolt?

I really want the Bionic but simply do NOT have the patience to wait til May/June/July or whenever the hell its supposed to come out (especially since I have been due for an upgrade since 11/10) so I will probably just get the Thunderbolt. The only way I see myself getting a Bionic now is if Verizon officially announces that the Thunderbolt's release will get pushed wayy back or if the Bionic's release will get pushed wayy up, and I don't think either will happen.

I am a smartphone virgin, so its still going to be a HUGE step up from my P.O.S. LG Chocolate 3.

FOR ALL OF YOU WHO ARE BUYING THE THUNDERBOLT BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO IMPATIENT TO WAIT FOR THE BIONIC:

You will regret it. A single-core phone will be obsolete quicker than a dual-core, especially considering quad-cores will be available late 2011/early 2012.

Everyone feels "tech envy" partway through the lifespan of their phones, but Thunderbolt users will feel it quicker and more intensely. It's already March; three months is not that long of a wait.

Think of it this way: you will have three months to be in awe of your Thunderbolt until you start kicking yourself for not having waited for a Tegra 2 phone. You'll be locked into a contract, and start realizing how newer games/apps require a dual-core SOC. When quad-core phones reach the market, you will either:
  • die from phone envy.
  • attempt to justify an (expensive) early upgrade.
  • suffer in quiet desperation.
I'm gonna wait for the Bionic. Why don't you join me and we'll squirm in our seats with impatience, together.

I'll pass, PolyOlefin. I've already waited 4 months, which has seemed like 738 years, I'm sure as hell not waiting another 1-4 (unless, like I previously mentioned, the TB gets significantly delayed to make it worth waiting for the Bionic).

From what I've heard, there is hardly anything out there right now optimized for dual core processors. I would also feel more comfortable buying from the 2nd or 3rd wave of dual core phones rather than one of the first so all the usual "kinks" get worked out. And I've heard varying views on Motorola, and nothing but good things about HTC.

You're thinking about the current state of things, not what it'll be like months down the road. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve efficiency. Developers will get the hang of multi-threading. Already on the Marketplace there are games that require a dual-core.

If you're gonna keep your phone for about 2 years, like me, even dual-cores will be old hat by the time you upgrade (though not obsolete). You will spend 2012-2013 missing out on new software not available for a single 1GHz core.

I understand your impatience given you currently have a feature phone. Please take my advice: it doesn't have to be the Bionic, just don't buy a new phone unless it's based on ARM's new A9 architecture.

yes I know down the road it will be more useful, but I think at this point my impatience overrides everything, not to mention if VZW is going to unleash the TB with the rumored $30/mo. unltd. 4g LTE data just like 3g is now, I'd really like to take that and get grandfathered in then gamble for the Bionic and get screwed with tiered data.

If 4g LTE data packages are going to be ridiculous starting with the TB release, then I don't know what I will do. It will probably depend on the actual figures some, but more than likely it will come down to me getting the Droid X now or waiting for the 3g-only Droid X2.

I'll wait with you Poly. The Thunderbolt is already old news at this point. The only thing even making me consider picking it up is that it is HTC. If they would have released in 6 months ago like it seemed possible at one point, I would have been all over it! You snooze, you lose. I waited this long, I can wait another 6 months and get something that won't be obsolete by year end. I mean, the Thunderbolt is essentially the Evo with a newer generation hardware and slightly improved specs. Sure, maybe its benchmarked faster and all thatgood stuff, but it is essentially the same phone. That whole "this is the phone after your dream phone" is just arrogant crap. This WAS my dream phone half a year ago. The one after my current dream phone is now a quad-core with over 1G of RAM and a front facing camera that isn't just described as "VGA".

Sorry, that was the tip of an entire rant that I'm trying to hold back. Been quiet about this for awhile. Quit honestly, by time the Bionic comes out I might decide to wait for another phone because I still have a few qualms about the specs. Like the whole RAM issue.

Poly.... trying to change someones mind isn't going to happen because thats just now how people are so.. quit wasting your time. I am with you though, waiting on the Bionic. I have a single core phone now, why would I "upgrade" to another one..lol

Edit: If I were not using a Droid phone right now though and I had say.. an LG Chocolate or something (1st thing that popped in my head) I might snag a TB though because my pain would be too great to wait.

Hmmm...yeah...pretty much what I said myself.
