Motorola Droid Maintenance Release Prelude to Android 2.1

I have to say, I was pissed that we've been being left in the dust with a lot of things- We have Verizon's flagship phone, we have Motorola's current flagship phone as well, but we have Google's afterthought. So, their baby the Nexus One comes out with all these things and then we get them whenever the hell they get around to it, but then I realized that we are at an advantage with this phone:
They sold the more Droids then Nexus One. Google's android platform has to perform well on this phone otherwise they're in trouble, they're seeing now that more people are exposed to android from the Droid then from the N1, so we're going to see more stable builds and less experimental **** rolling out of labs. We also get the collaborative efforts of three giants instead of one- Moto has a say in the software, Verizon has a say in everything relating to the networking (could be for better or worse, we'll see), and Google has to make everyone happy. This is why we're seeing a delay in our 2.1 update. My bet is going to be it's because one of those three companies want something difficult and worthwhile included in it. We'll know when we see it, I sense a delightful surprise on the way.
I have to agree with this post. I also think the Droid will get the more stable builds of the software as it rolls out. Sure it is going to take longer, but I'd rather have stable over buggy any day. There are things I would like to see on this update, but if they are going to cause problems, then I'd rather them wait a little longer and release what is going to be stable. As it stands I  my Droid.

A LITTLE longer......hahaha...Motorola wants to roll out ANOTHER android phone within the next week. That's their focus. Its been over a month now and still no word...I don't enjoy the taste of dust and dirt but I'm starting to realize this "flagship" phone is going to be lest behind soon by motorola...

Just my guess but could Motorola have MotoBlur ready for Android 2.1 and they are waiting for the Devour to be for sale first and then send us the update? Wouldn't everyone be pissed if the Devour was announced with 2.1 and MotoBlur and we don't even get 2.1? Personally I want 2.1 and MotoBlur, the syncing feature with your PC is very cool and the Facebook App is at least a useful one compared to the one we have on the Droid now.

The update will come. The phone is amazing now anyway so I'm patient. There's nothing that I feel I can't do with my Droid. When I think of my past phones and all the things I wished I could do, now I can. So, when the update comes I will be excited, but its not like the update is NEEDED for my phone to d what I want to do.

I seriously doubt we are getting the 2.1 update. Here is why I say that....... I have read on several different sites (no I cannot remember which ones) that the DROID II is due out at the end of summer. It appears that Moto and Verizon have turned their attentions to a newer and greater phone and basically those of us with the original DROID are going to be left in the dust. So if you want 2.1 so bad, you are going to have to root and get it that way. Me personally, my luck runs with Murphy's Law so I know that if I try to root my phone I will brick it. So I will stick with what I have and be happy.

It is coming. The insiders have been keeping us informed. It keeps getting pushed back and updated. They should be about done fixing what they're going to fix though so hopefully it won't be long now.

Bill23 and ryzr are for real - and they've been around for years.

Interesting forum ... I do not exactly see anything specific about when the 2.1 will be released but I appreciate the link.
