Motorola Droid Maintenance Release Prelude to Android 2.1

Sorry if this has been answered before, but if I am rooted with a costum ROM, will I get this update? And if I do should I install it, or it could mess things up.

You might, but if you install it it will more than likely break root and SU access

for those rooted with a custom rom, don't accept any updates via VZ. let the developers check the update, and alter it accordingly to maintain root access.

ok well for my situation i dont know what to do, i rooted my droid to the 2.0.1 software bc i was to anxious to wait for the OTA update, well i dont know how to make a custom rom or anything,the only reason i did it was because i wanted to 2.0.1 quicker. So when this update that yall are talking about is available, will i recieve it on my phone OTA or not? and if not do will i have to basicly restart my phone from nothing? Sorry if it a dumb or noob question but i have seen this question asked but not really a clear answer , so please dont flame, i dont think its neccesary

Are you sure that you rooted? It wasn't necessary to root in order to apply the 2.0.1 update. If all you did was download the 2.0.1 update, restart your phone, and apply it, then you didn't root and your phone is essentially the same as if you received it OTA.

well im not sure if im rooted, i dont know/ understand all this "tech talk". Like i said, i put the update.zip on my phone and everything so that i could have the 2.0.1 bc i was to anxious to wait for the OTA update. I did the thing where you hold the x key while pressing the volume up button or something like that until you see the triangle and something else. And eventually i got the 2.0.1 on my phone. I never did recieve an option to update my phone to the 2.0.1 from verizon though, so i figured since i didnt i was probably rooted. so yeah, if yall could help me figure out what the heck my phone is ( rooted or not) that would be sweet. BC im guessing if my phone isnt rooted than this time i should recieve the OTA update.And if thats the case, then im going to just be patient and wait for it this time so im not confused and what not

If you don't know if you are rooted, then you probably are not rooted as it is a pretty involved process. If all you did was manually install 2.0.1 (which is what it sounds like), then you should be good for getting 2.1 OTA.

alright so i'm running sholes.info 1.1, and have OTA updated disabled. would the best course of action for me to just wait until the devs get their hands on this update and release their own rom, one which retains root access? sorry if this encroaches on the "talking about root" territory, but i just want to make sure that i'm doing things right

Like the moderator kindly said this is not the place for that type of question. There is a whole thread dedicated to the sholes.info rom and that would be that appropriate place for question. Don't be lazy and just post it here becasue you happened to be reading this thread!

Anyways as for question the answer would be that YES you need to wait for the people at Sholes to update their rom accordingly. That is if you want to keep your phone rooted like it is currently. I personally went back to stock until they offically release 2.1 then after that I will get back into playing around with a rooted phone!

J/K, can't wait to get 2.1. Have already used the gallery and clock plus tried out the new homescreen/apps drawer which was pretty cool...
