Motorola XOOM $800 plus minimum 1 month service?

Apparently, in order to buy one you have to activate it on Verizon's network so there's really no way of getting around that one month.

Im sure itl be hacked. Any lock for wifi would have to be done through software... IM just mad that VZ is budding into the wifi. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? VZ needs to take a hit on this tab, Hopefully this will shove VZ's and Motorola's money back to the drawling board. =Even 250 nooks sold the 4g ones like crap... everyone bought the wifi ones. Why? Because who wants another contract. Thats lame, Im going to be using this in my house where i have way better wifi!

As for the data plan, it LOOKS like it's the same plans they use for the mifi units they sell. And those are pay-as-you-go. So I don't think there is an early termination fee there.

I will be making a call to vzw to confirm the data plans for the xoom. If they are the same then i already have a plan for getting one without it killing me lol. I will let you guys know what I find out.

did anyone else notice the prices for "3G tablet" service of 1GB / $20 - 3GB / $35 - 5GB / $50 - 10GB / $80? Shouldn't it be the same price as a phone's data plan?

No, those prices are for Verizon's tablet data plans. What you COULD do... is pay for the get your 1 month of 1 gb data then cancel it. Once wi-fi is unlocked, rock the mobile hot spot on your phone. That's what I might do if I actually buy this...

The plan is month to month for XOOM. No contract. The data plans are the reg for tablets.

Well it's not a contract so you don't sign for a year is what I've seen. Like the Galaxy tab.

But I imagine there might be a $35 activation fee so then $55 then cancel... yeah that makes me sad.

Wow.... a wifi ipad is way cheaper.... don't know the specs of the two but apple seems to be a cheaper option. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Motorola is way out of line on this price and the Atrix accessories - there is no way I will pay this much for the Xoom, apparently they are marketing to a different crowd -
