Mysterious Device Now With November 23 Launch date

To your question I was at the local VZW store yesterday and innocently asked, "The DIHD's coming out at the end of the month, right?" The rep immediately responded, "Not until Q1, and yes it will be LTE and yes I already asked the manager."

He shut it down right there! I guess others have been asking about the device (shows you our community's growing!) but boy I sure hope he's not in the know.

I went to VZW on Saturday. Initially, I was doing some shopping for my gf and "quietly" merging our accounts, so I can get her the Incredible for Christmas.

After I finished, I started speaking with the store owner about the rumors of the Incredible HD, his response was "Oh, I have it right here". My response was, of course, "No effing way". Unfortunately, he pulled out the OG Incredible. Must have been hard of hearing :( Either way, we spoke at length about the forums, speculation rumors etc. With confidence, he told me he expected an Incredible HD after the beginning of the year. I eventually pulled up a picture of the device on his computer. His response was "This looks a lot like something that will be out before Christmas, but again, he was confident that it was not the HD.

I understand that there is probably a high percentage of us that have called or visited a store rep digging for information. I wanted to put this up with what some of you have heard. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

On an AWESOME note, he offered me a part-time to eventual full-time job right before I walked out of the door! I was really not expecting that! I'm headed up there this afternoon, after job #1, to speak with him about it. Please, let me know.

Wow, I guess I'm not surprised. I mean I can wait till then easy as pie, but I'm kind of doubting that based on miami's info so far. :icon_eek:

VZW does seem to be in a spot. The holidays are here, All of the Storm NE2 are due, T-Mobile and Sprint are pushing thier 4G networks, ATT pushing the Iphone and VZW is just going to announce phones for thier 4G network are coming in 4 months and updated rehashed phones being released in November (The Pro is new but the D2G is just an update).

Seems to me they really need something to pull them through the holidays till all the LTE's come out.

Agreed. And as many have stated, LTE will not be widely available for at least another year. There are many markets that a high end 3G device would serve well for another year. This device would put Verizon over the top in terms of product going into the Christmas season.

Depends on your definition of "widely" available....38 cities by year-end serving some 100M potential customers, about 1/3 of the US. It's going to be dual band - perfectly fine for 3G users they just don't get the LTE sim upgrade. HTC will probably be selling more LTE handsets than they can produce, so would you swap the radio and charge an extra $50-$100 or would you allocate capacity to 3G only devices?

I also doubt the feedback from the VZW reps. Can't believe they know anything when Miami has been sworn to secrecy.

The more I hear comments like this, the more I tend to agree. During the holidays, Sprint will advertise 4G, T-Mobile will now advertise 4G big time (since they've gotten off the pot and decided their not-quite 3.5G network should be crowned 4G), and AT&T has iPhone and WinPho7. All new and exciting ways to get consumers in the store.

If VZW thinks people are going to be swarming their stores for 6-month old technology (Inc & DX), a BB wannabe (DPro), a world capable phone (D2G) or a phone with a gimicky display (Samsung Cont.), they are delusional. These phones are all good to great, but none have a "wow" factor. I'm not sure a DInc HD that's just an HTC version of the DX will even do it. It's going to take 4G or something else they can hype.

i dont think everyone that works in verizon stores knows the information that we know... or more importantly what miami knows. even if verizon employees do know anything they aren't about to tell anyone that asks. they will only play dumb and simply say that the current incredible is the phone that everyone is asking about or say they know nothing.

miami has inside sources that are telling him everything... until i hear different from him, i'm going to assume that this forum has the most knowledge about the upcoming htc phone.

It wouldn't hurt them to release the LTE Dinc HD now. I would think that all phones for the next one / two years would have dual radios 3G/4G Till the system is completely up and running.

They could release LTE Dinc now, it will run on 3G till they through switch for 4G.

This would give the a huge advertising blitz for the holiday touting thier 4G network.

The towers aren't completely ready for prime time or switched on. Besides, the phone probably won't operate well. They'll be using CDMA for voice and LTE for data.

I totally agree. Again - if VZW pulled a LTE Droid Incredible HD ahead and launched it in December it would not only provide a wow factor in the hardware - but allow them to trump the advertising impact that the other companies have going into Christmas. While I would love to have this phone available before I go on vacation at Thanksgiving...imagine the impact of announcing the first LTE device for pre order on the 23rd and an in store launch on December 3rd. That would give three weeks of sales leading up to Christmas and give Verizon the hottest must have phone for Christmas 2010.

The Droid X and Droid Incredible are now too old to be a big draw into Verizon stores for Christmas. And the Fascinate was a flop by all accounts. The Bing and faulty GPS issue tripped this out of the gate causing it to be a Best Buy Free Phone Friday special two out of the five Friday's in October. The fact that Verizon/Rim are letting the Storm2 die a slow death with no replacement means that for the first time in a long time - VZW is left without a top tier phone to launch over Christmas. I fear the HTC Merge will get lost with the other slider phones from Motorolla...and the new Samsung with the ticker is just weird.

If VZW is going to make a sales splash - then the HTC DINC HD is their only option.

How will 4g phones operate in areas that don't have 4G coverage initially?

vzw reps

I have a sister who is a regional manager of inventory and a brother who is a district manager of sales reps at vzw. They have both been working for about 3 years and have never I mean never had info on phones before I have seen info on the web. On really popular devices they usually wouldn't even know till a week before. With that said I have seen lots of people explaining about grilling the vzw reps at their local store and I would have to say most likely they dont know what they are talking about. Again “most likely” you never know I guess but I just recommend that you take what they say with a grain of salt. If miami is talking to high ups(which I believe he is) then I would trust his info way more than some random rep. At least from my experience.

Don't know. Maybe without an inserted SIM card, data will run off the CDMA radio. But as far as I know, that's how they are handling their data/voice.

I would have thought that if there was no 4G signal then the phone would switch back to the CDMA radio for 3G.
