Mysterious Device Now With November 23 Launch date

Here is the chat log (I admit, I didn't force the issue):

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless. My name is 'Jonathan', how may I assist you?

[Eddog4DROID]: Hi, I have a question on my annual upgrade which is eligible on Dec 2, 2010. I am the primary line and I do qualify for this.

Jonathan: Okay. I can help you with this.

[Eddog4DROID]: There is strong evidence that a new device called the "HTC Incredible HD" will be available for preorder this Friday (Nov 12th with no known release date). If this is the case, can I have my annual upgrade moved to this day because I do not want to deal with a back order that the Droid X and Original Droid Incredible had.

Jonathan: There has not been communication of this device launching on Verizon Wireless.

[Eddog4DROID]: In the event that there is a similar situation with another device, would it be possible to have the upgrade date moved just a couple of weeks?

Jonathan: If it is a couple of weeks, we would be able to move up the upgrade date. This would have to be done via Customer Service.

[Eddog4DROID]: Over the phone, I assume? Thank you for helping me. No further questions.

Jonathan: Over the phone or via chat.

Jonathan: You're welcome.

[Eddog4DROID]: Oh ok. Thank you.

[Eddog4DROID]: Have a nice day.

Jonathan: You too.

Dummy and test units...... Let's not forget, the IncHD is basically a jacked Inc.

What do you mean by that?

They have different form factors, different screen sizes, different processors, different GPU's to name a few...as far as I can tell...the biggest similarity they have is the name.

These phones are very different with the Incredible HD being vastly superior.

The HD is superior, but they are very similar:

Android 2.2
Snapdragon processors (1000)
Sense

I had to fix other issues with my account, but I just got off the phone with Verizon and the customer service rep looked up the Droid Incredible HD in the system and said that it won't be available for pre-order until Friday.

Very interesting. When I called they knew nothing about it.

My problems were with my renewal date, and when the rep got it all sorted out she asked if I wanted to upgrade right then, so I said I was waiting for the DInc HD to go on preorder on friday she looked it up in the system and said that I'd have to wait for Friday.

The processor isn't even confirmed yet, as aren't the rest of the specs. To make any comparisons between the two is speculative at best right now.

The processor is rumored (strongly by Miami) to be the next generation snapdragon that is clocked at 1.2ghz and the Sense is 2.5.

I wouldn't say that these are "very" similar.

But still speculation until Friday...or earlier if Miami releases the goods.

Why hasn't the Merge been announced yet? Has this even cleared the FCC yet?

This could be tied into the DINC HD.

Possibly. Motorolla released the Droid Pro and Droid2 Global at the same time. Who knows - maybe they will both be released for pre-sale on Friday.

I believe this 100%

Four mostly high-end Android devices released or available to pre-order in a span of 4 or 5 days?

- Wow.

Maybe they really want to keep the lane open for the iPhone in January. They expect a HUGE amount of attention and customers on that, so why be distracted with other releases at the same time. Can you imagine the volume of Customer Support they will need for the iPhone? Perhaps they are giving themselves as much breathing space as possible. Release all the DROIDs by December 1st so that they can be holiday items and start the new year focused only on the iPhone. I bet we will not see another High-End Android device on Verizon for at least 6-8 weeks after the iPhone Launch.

Just keep in mind ladies and gentlemen these things are VERY fluid. Handsets are delayed and/or canceled ALL THE TIME.

I can't see this device canceled but I can definitely see it delayed.

But still, I can see a 6 week iPhone before. No more high-end Smart Phones after Dec 1st. Release the iPhone 6 weeks later in Mid Jan. Do not release any other high-end smart phone for another 6 weeks until after March--maybe the LTE devices?

I can not emphasize the amount of attention, calls, tech support, lines, pre orders, data traffic, activation delays (see EVO?), etc etc etc that the #1 selling Smart Phone in America will get once it goes to the #1 and most reliable network in America. I think even Miami said n a earlier post that the iPhone to Verizon in January was basically a done deal (at least the announcement, but I can't see the release being delayed after that).

Maybe Apple & Verizon have some deal in place to make sure the launch is as "solo" as possible with little or no competition (at least for the initial release). Although HTC/Moto/Samsung have been propping up Verizon the last year so I can't see Verizon mess them over like that... although it is big business and Apple is more powerful and richer than those other companies (maybe not Samsung? but at least in the Mobile market they are).

If and when the iPhone comes to Verizon, I would guarantee that it would be conditional on an exclusive release date. The stores themselves wouldn't be able to handle multiple units releasing the same day with it. That would be suicide. And I agree with your 6 to 8 week gap to give time to "clear the lines". That would make a lot of sense from a strategic standpoint of positioning your employees.

There is merit to this point of view. Engadget also recently alluded to the fact that VZW could be trying to leave things open in anticipation of the iPhone release.
