Mysterious Device Now With November 23 Launch date

Very interesting news. So I wonder if this is the meeting where the VZW representative gives him the green light to release the data. Of course...he has been supposed to talk to the VZW rep many times before. I think Verizon knows they are in the driver's seat on this....so once the information comes out...we shall see if VZW followed through.

Well being this is Friday, can this be counted as a three day weekend? Or we just talking about Sat or Sunday?

What? Are we back to guessing when anything or something will be posted? Ugh...while I believe Miami has something to show...that he has been sitting on for weeks now...I will get excited when I actually see it. And I doubt anything happens this weekend. But I would love to be surprised.

Miami...I hope you have a productive weekend...

Miami is meeting with VZW this weekend (Possibly tonight) to settle some issues, he told us this. There will be a chat made if it is going to happen tonight, so keep an eye out.

Been lurking on this board for a couple of months now, but finally registered today. Thank all of you guys for the information you have given so far, and I'm excited about whats to come.

For those of us (like me) who have not joined the SmartPhone age yet, this is very exciting. I wanted the Original DROID really really bad when it first came out, but I still had a full year left before I could upgrade, and didn't want to pay a bunch out of pocket for the phone since I was newly married. Looks like the year long wait will have paid dividends, and I'm really excited.

Anyway, excited to be here and thanks again guys!

Just got off with a member from the HTC Support Hotline 866-449-8358 and he said he has never heard of the HTC Incredible HD and he even googled it so he could see what I was talking about and said that was the 1st he has ever heard of or seen the device. He said his supervisor may know more about it and put me on hold only to come back and say nope. He also said they usually get their hands on devices weeks to months in advance and so having some launch in 17 days does not seem realistic to him. I then asked about the Merge and he said the same thing about that device.....so I guess take it with a grain of salt. I can not wait for someone to say, "Oh the HTC Inc HD, that is a great phone and it is in our system and you can pre-order it today". The rep did say that it was a nice kickstand and looked like a nice looking phone from what he saw on Google. UGHHHHHHHHHHH

I am so torn!!!!! Please MIAMI save us :)

If the bootloader is in fact locked then that will be what stops me from
getting this device >.< Please dont let it be true!

Wow I leave this thread yesterday and there's almost 30 more pages of posts.
Is there any new info that I was not in the chat.

I have a little something that can also help out a little. Some of you may have been following the comments on BGR.com ever since they reported this phone. Any one remember user biff6789? It's been about a month since the last time i heard from him but here is some info he shared with us.

Gorgeous, mysterious, EVO-ish HTC device headed for Verizon | BGR

Biff6789:
UPDATE:

Ok, I got an email from my friend in Seattle this weekend. He had some good news and some bad news about this device...

Good news: He said that Verizon is slating a Nov/Dec launch for this device, so it should drop before year end!

Bad news: When I questioned him on this and asked why an LTE device would come out this year when Verizon specifically said they weren't releasing any LTE phones til next year, he responded: "Cuz the test units floating around out there right now are only 3G phones, rendering the front-facing camera essentially useless"

He said there's a small chance they could upgrade it to a LTE radio before launch, but he probably wouldn't hear about the switch til the last minute

If you ask me, the fact that it's slated for a 2010 launch, and the fact that test devices are only 3G leads me to think it probably won't be upgraded to an LTE phone. Sad :(

He's still in Seattle all weekend meeting with HTC execs, so I'll update more when/if I hear anymore from him next week

biff6789:
@fest

"This device" means the one pictured above (i.e. the one with the 4.3" screen, kickstand, et al). What you're looking at above is exactly what he's been seeing. I asked him to sneak a pic for me but he said owners of the test units have explicitly declined my request (as expected, I guess)

@Prasad

We can still hope, but test units of this device out there are only 3G phones right now. And since Verizon is slating this for Nov/Dec launch while HTC simultaneously said this week "no LTE phones til 2011", the odds of this device being 4G are not good

@this is it

It IS coming to Verizon and is being tested on Verizon's network as we speak. As for it looking too much like the EVO, take a look at all the phones HTC just released in Europe. They all look exactly like this bad boy... so it's actually quite probable that the device above is exactly what the final version will look like

@everyone

I know you guys have tons of questions. I do too. Trust me, I'm asking all the same questions you guys are. But finding out info is tough since there's not just some centralized place where he can go to find out info. He has to just keep his eyes peeled for the device and when he sees someone with it, he asks whatever he can. But often, the testers tell him they can't say anything. But once in a while some people talk so I will feed you the answers as soon as I get them. But as for now, I've posted absolutely EVERYTHING I know

biff6789:
Well guys, my buddy finished up all his business trips, but wasn't able to hear much more so I don't have much more to add, and likely will not hear anything else until Verizon/HTC drops something more official on this device since he's done traveling now

He mentioned the new roadmap to me in an email this morning and said he heard rumors that Verizon has considered holding this phone til next year so that it could be released with an LTE radio (which would make more sense considering it has a front-facing camera), but said he also talked to another guy who said it's still slated for a Nov/Dec launch... So who knows? It seems that the process is evolving and that Verizon hasn't made an official decision yet

Anyway, to recap everything I've heard so far, both my buddies have told me that this is a CDMA device and is confirmed for Verizon (not Sprint). Test units floating around are only using a 3G radio, but of course it's possible that they could modify it to an LTE radio should they choose. They have now heard two launch dates: 1) Nov/Dec (which would make it 3G), OR 2) Early next year (which would likely involve a 4G radio and likely a faster processor per Qualcomm's guidelines).

Sorry, I don't have anything else to add. But I've told you guys everything I've heard so hopefully it helped you all out a little bit. I've told the truth in everything I've heard, and have even used the fake alias biff6789 to prevent my friends from getting in trouble.

I'm anxious for more info on this device too, but it looks like I'm now in the boat with you guys waiting to hear something from Verizon/HTC/BGR/Engadget.

Good luck to you all. I'll see you in line the day this device drops ;)

While I agree that this will stink, let me ask you this: What are your alternatives?

Can a locked bootloader (eg: DX) be taken as far as to totally prevent ANY root-enabled apps? Or are kernel mods about as far as it goes?

:icon_ worthless:

Not as far as I know. It can only prevent you from loading a custom rom.

Droid X has it's workarounds to the bootloader issues through koush's bootstrapper, which is pretty much clockwork recovery, allowing custom roms w/o kernel changes. The kernel can also be overclocked but will revert to stock setting upon reboot. The first month i didn't bother rooting my X because it's an amazing device even at stock settings.

BTW, gaining superuser(root) access WILL enable all root-dependent apps.

The release of this phone is supposed to be kept secret so why would anyone just give you confidential info on it. They are told to KEEP QUIET so Verizon can sell more Incredibles before the release. Thats the point of keeping this leak under wraps.

I agree with H4, if VZW is trying to clear the Incredible out of their inventory, they probably have an NDA with HTC to make sure no one releases any early info.
