New Findings and Fixes thread for Droid 2.0.1 OTA updates

Yes, I would try the manual update... you may still have your contacts on your phone....

Let me know if you can't find the update file easily.. I don't mind emailing it.

If that doesn't work.. go back into recovery mode and set the phone back to its defaults.. that should definately get you back in.. and it shouldn't kill your contacts...

If you can't get in even in recovery mode, your phone has issues.

i've had the 2.0.1 update since early this A.M. I've gone through 18 pages (!) of this thread so I cannot be sure this has been addressed but:

- my understanding from Phandroid was that the Visual Voicemail issue (not working while Wi Fi is enabled) was on the fix list. Unfortunately that problem still remains. Verizon only commented after the OTA update that "Visual Voicemails arrive instantly."

Other confirmations:

- Browser scrolling (and Facebook) is noticeably choppier. Doesn't matter if it's Android or Dolphin.
- Have not yet had enough time to assess the issue of the screen staying dark after you remove the phone from your ear, but so far (12 hours) looks good.
- Gmail supports inline images just fine, but one poster said this was fine before the update.
- new unlock screen is harder if you're left-handed but pretty much the same if you're a righty
- unlock screen is dimmer, but that's probably a deliberate feature for power saving
- faster camera focus
- confirmed that with Wi Fi on, YouTube defaults to high quality mode, but on 3G you still need to use the menu>more>watch in high quality. Probably just trying to save bandwidth unless the user overrides it. Too bad, as the normal quality looks like crap.

Since the update I no longer get Gmail notifications. I have unread mail in my inbox, and I've confirmed in the Droid settings that my Gmail account is set to synch. In Gmail settings, I confirmed that notifications are enabled.
I had the same problem. After checking all the settings and then reading all the posts here, I rebooted and it seemed to take care of the issue.

Lot of issues can be resolved after the update with a power down, batt pull, and reboot. :) Give it a shot before you let the frustration kick in :icon_eek:

Perhaps someone can tell me if a "shift/alt/del reboot accomplishes any more or less than removing/replacing the battery? This is my normal mode of rebooting, rather than removing the battery.

Visit the market and get the Visual Voicemail update under your downloads. They have updated the app to work with wifi

I believe this is considered a 'hard reset' which is the same as a battery pull. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Not sure if this replies to anyone in particular, but here's a thread from howardforums, "Understanding VZW *228 Updates & Myths"
Excerpts:
What It DOES NOT Do:

Contrary to the seemingly endless loads of mis-information & rumor on the net, & sometimes from CS employees, The PRL & *228 Update DOES NOT:
1 - Have Anything to do with any individual "Towers", or accessing newly built "towers". If a company builds a new tower near your home, that new tower is already part of an existing system ("company"), which either is already listed in the PRL, or isn't. Only ENTIRE system ID's are in a PRL. There is no way for VZW to add or block any individual new or old "Towers" by way of the PRL. That's not how the PRL works. Period.
2 - The PRL update can't increase a weak native VZW signal strength issue.

I had no complaints but after 47 hours realized I had never pulled the battery.. after doing that It seems a little spunkier.

Have you tried unlocking without auto brightness on? (just asking because mine starts out dim, then gets brighter if I don't yet swipe it immeadiately)

I found it sets a higher level of brightness if you have auto off ....

Update applied this morning, my reaction is that collectively we have made a whole lot of noise for not a lot of difference. I cant really tell thats its any faster (but then It wasnt slow before the update). The camera might be a little faster to shoot. The new unlock screen with the ability to silence the phone is nice.

Having said that, Im not disappointed at ALL... Im sure there are a lot of things embedded in it that will be helpful today and going forward (cant tell anything about battery YET, but Ill keep an eye on that). Im glad that Verizon/Moto/Google are keeping the Droid current. I just dont know that there was a whole lot of user visible bang in this update (which would be expected given its 2.0.1 - indicates a pretty minor update.

You could silence phone on old screen by moving the arch counterclockwise. It took a while for me to discover that, which is probably why they changed it. More visible feature now with two arrows. I find it takes more finger/thumb pressure to lock/unlock now. Odd.
Yea! I thought I was going crazy, or had gunk on my fingers. It used to be so easy to unlock the screen, now I have to try 2 or 3 times. I hate when software companies change things that work perfectly.

If auto is off, there is a slider that lets you set it where you want.. yours may be at max.

settings--->sound & display--->brightness--->uncheck "automatic brightness" and a slider appears.

i cant zoom in web browser anymore? double taps dont work and there isnt even any - + icons on the screen to do it ...the only thing i can do is to manually go into the menu and select far, medium, close:mad:

Whatever they've done to the web browser is very unfortunate. It's so choppy and laggy now. I really hope they put in a fix for it soon.

Unless I'm mistaken.. before, I thought the "uptime" gave a reading of how long its been since you were plugged in, now I think it gives a reading of how long its been since the phone has been rebooted or turned off.... that would actually make more since.... Mines showing 47 hours right now.
yes you are mistaken : )

uptime has always been how long the phone has been on since the last powercycle.
