New OTA Update Downloading......

update failing on my end as well. Trying for 3rd time. No safestrap, unrooted, all bloat intact and unfroze. Very weird.......

4th time for me as well?! Still trying though. Don't know what's going on but at the point now that I don't even want to keep root anymore! Its very confusing and frustrating!

Don't give up! What you and Cereal should do is try updating manually. Do you know where the update is? Go into the stock recovery and clear the cache. Then use the "apply update" option.

Because I'm paranoid, I would copy the zip file to your SD card and update from there (yes I know that the file resides in the internal memory when it's applied).

2.3.6 ver 174 rooted with NO problems

I successfully did the update last night without a hitch and been playing with my phone since. I know one of the improvements that was included was for 4g to reach out to usually weak signals and build a more consistent solid connection but I think the 4g is a bit spotty.Areas where I though the 4g was coming in and out is still coming in and out which I was hoping it would have bridge the 4g coverages.

If you had a second rom running on the safe side via safe strap, that is why you are failing the update. Safestrap places all of the files for your safe Rom in a folder called "preinstall" and the stock files that are supposed to be there are removed. When the ota update package checks your system it sees that your pre install folder is not right so the update fails.

You have two options. You can fastboot with rsd back to 744, then update to 748, root, use root keeper, then take ota for 173.

The other option is to go to droidrzr.com. they have a thread with a link to the files that should be in your pre install folder. You can download that to your computer, unzip, then delete whatever files are in your preinstall folder and place the correct ones in there.

Not running any rom and completely stock, have noticed that while its installing it gets about half way(yellow bar) and then shuts off, reboots to bootsplash screen and starts system.

bullswife....

This lionk should download the zip of the preinstall files you will need. Credit goes to mattlgroff over at droidrzr.com.

Goo-inside.me Downloads - Downloading 6.11.748preinstall.zip

Just downlaod zip to copmputer, extract files, then make sure your preinstall folder on your phone only has these files.

If that link does not work, here is a link to the thread on droidrzr.com. You will have to sign in and then you will find the link to the preinstall files for 748 near the bottom of the very first post on that thread.

I got the update this morning and so far everything that was in the leak and I was satisfied with is in the update. Now if ICS is as good as we are expecting everything will be right with the world. DancingNexusDancingNexusDancingNexus

I just got 6.12.173.... I hope it fixes the 4g issue at least lol. The soak fixed my bionic.... it would be great to have more reliable 4g....

After it dwlnds do I just tap it and it installs or do I have to have a custom recovery to do it?

Interesting. So out of curisoity, if you never had a custom rom why did you have safestrap? At least I am pretty sure I saw a post earlier in this thread saying you had safestrap. Oh, and I meant to say non-safe above. not safe mode. If you had a rom in non-safe, safestrap places those files in the preinstall folder. Either way, I would recommend that you take a look at your preinstall folder on your phone and it should only have around 4 files. If you have anything different, I would use the link I provided to place the proper preinstall files in that folder and try again. If that fails, then a flash back to 744 with fasboot may be your only option.

Flashing fastboot is not so bad because you do not have to wipe anything. I just fastbooted recently and did not wipe any data and it simply replaced my system files back to 744 but all of my user apps were there so I did not have to go through the pain of reinstalling and setting my phone up again.
