New Unlimited Plan from Big Red?

So how many of you that have got this the single line deal also got the friends and family. "Plus, you can add Friends and Family to eligible plans at no additional cost and get unlimited callingto the numbers you call most in the U.S. on any network, even landlines." As far as I can tell I didn't but have seem some people say they got it and some not mention whether they did or not. So I was just curious.

Just called in and got this promotion on the first try in combination with switching my service from AT&T to Verizon. Customer service rep was super nice and gave me this plan without any hesitation. I picked up a Droid X for me and a Droid 2 for both the wife and daughter. What version of Android are these phones shipping with?

Would a change from a blackberry to an iphone or blackberry to droid be considered a change to a data feature since the blackberry data plan is different than the smartphone data plan? Also My one feature phone now has data on it, so would a switch from a feature phone to a droid be a data plan change if the feature phone already has a data plan on it?

As long as it is a $29.99 unlimited data feature. Change it to a limited feature, or to corporate data and you will lose it.

Device: Samsung SCH-I400 Continuum

Sorry I need to clarify: as long as you are on a $29.99 unlimited data feature you are fine. Blackberry to iPhone to Android to feature phone.

Thanks...I called back and also spoke to another loyalty rep who confirmed that as long as you keep this promotion and do not sign anything to switch to another promotion, you can upgrade phones even to the iphone. I then told him what the previous rep had told me, and he put me on hold to speak to a supervisor. He came back and said that the supervisor confirmed what he said and that as long as you keep the 29.99 data plan on all phones, and don't agree to another promotion (like 500 free minutes or something similar), that the promotion will stay. I asked him to notate that he told this to me in my account for future reference(not sure it will do any good, but cant hurt) and he did.

Let's hope that what he is saying is true.

Got this for my dad's family share plan & my single line.

My single line on a Droid Eris.
I had 450 minutes with unlimited verizon text and 500 non-verizon. I also had unlimited data/smartphone. I have a 15% work discount on voice and 12% work discount on data.

After changing the plan to the promotional $69.99 plan, I now have unlimited text to anyone. That is the only thing that changed besides being able to add 5 numbers for friends/family. My bill actually dropped because the rep gave me 15% work discount on the entire $69.99. I'm getting more for less! They also said it would be no problem to upgrade to an iPhone if I choose because this has nothing to do with upgrading handsets.

My dad has 2 Droids and a dumb phone. He as paying $200+ for data on the two smartphones and unlimited text on all devices.

After going to the family share plan of $139 and adding the third line for $19.99 he will be saving more than $65/month. He can also upgrade his dumb phone line to any smartphone for no additional monthly service charge since data is included.

Wow, just wow! This is awesome. The rep said this promotion ends tomorrow (Sunday), and that their office isn't even open on Sundays!

i started a thread here and i think it merged to this one. but sometime in november i started saving myself $80/mo. 4 lines. -$20/mo/line

since we have heard that Verizon will do away with grandfathering plans that are no longer offered, in the near future, will it affect this promo also? I would hate to have 5 smartphones and not be able to upgrade any of them at discount pricing in fear of the soon to be no grandfathering policy.

the new policy states that when you upgrade at discounted pricing, and if the plan your on is no longer offered, you must choose a plan that is currently offered.

yes that is true for now but Verizon is changing there grandfathering policy in the near future, there will be no grandfathering of plans that are not currently offered at the time of upgrading at discounted pricing.

in other words they are closing loopholes

i've been noticing that. but grandfathering should be grandfathering. does that mean they break the contract so we could just leave w/o penalty? there has to be legal issues. i had to verbally sign a new contract.

technically when you upgrade at discount price you are signing a new contract. So I think one would have to buy a phone at full retail or fleabay etc.... to get around this new policy that will be in affect soon.

i've been watching and wondering. got 4 good phones so i'm not concerned for the near future. i'm concerned about a year from now. never liked vzw for their monopoly type practices. reminds me of $MS. maybe an anti trust suit in the future. or at least some class action suits. they're making it difficult to know if its hurting us right now or not. all along i figured this promotion was too good to be true and that some day we will pay. since when does big red save you money? lol

Did you have a source for this? I have not seen any policy updates regarding this... Yet. Not saying you are wrong, just curious if there is something I missed.

More or less, the way I am aware it is, is that grandfathering is allowed as long as the roaming profile is current. In other words, anything that is labeled Nationwide can still be grandfathered (including the retired Basic/Select/Connect/Premium plans). America's Choice plans are not supported by many new devices based upon Verizon's current roaming profile, so those often times do NOT get grandfathered if you upgrade to certain devices.

EDIT: I should add that any of what I just said was meant ONLY if you upgrade and sign a new contract. If you stay with the same phone and contract you can be on the same plan as long as you want... We cannot ever make you change unless you agree to it via a new contract.

As for how long customers will get to keep their unlimited data plans, according to a Verizon spokeswoman, the unlimited plan will only be offered for the contract period. After the contract expires and customers buy a new device, they will be subject to whatever rate plans are available when they upgrade their phones.
"For example, a customer purchases an iPhone 4 or a Droid X along with the $29.99 data plan," the representative explained. "This person's contract expires February 10, 2013, but they love their device so much they never come in and purchase another device. They continue to pay us monthly and we continue to bill them for the exact same services. We don't change their plan. Now let's say in 2014, they want a new phone and they come in and purchase a new phone, then they subscribe to whatever service is offered at that time and pay that price."
This is different from AT&T's current data plan policy, which allows anyone who subscribed to an AT&T unlimited data plan before June 2010 to keep that unlimited plan, if they haven't altered the plan, even after their contract ends and they upgrade to a new phone.

i was told after interrogating him(don't trust them. lol) that 5 or 10 tears from now it would still be the same even if we did ne2 each time. it would be grandfathered in. its a family share plan. i dont think anyone at vzw knows whats going on. ever. i have been with them 5 yrs or so and there hasnt been one single month where i havent had to call them cuz they overcharged me. i scrutinize my bill. i always wonder out of 103M customers that they throw in some $5 data charge that no one can explain (yet your on unlimited data) blindly pay their bill and they rack up hundreds of millions in a single month. for me, thats over 100 times they have tried to screw me. most times it was for $30 or so on average.
thats why i don't trust them. in fact they say they undercharged me for 6 months and then tried to say i owed them $1500. OK! that was their screw up. for 6 months i tried to get something out of them and no one knew what my bill was. not even supervisors. i had to get the AG's in NJ and NY to investigate. took them a while. i could go on about how screwed up they are but i wont. but we pay for their screw ups.

to answer the question, i was told the only thing that will kill the promo is if i change to a different plan. even if they change it, the promo will roll into the new comparable plan
