New Unlimited Plan from Big Red?

Guess Big Red didn't realize this email would go viral, but then again they may not mind. It's a heck of a test if that's all it was. It won't help me or I would have called the number too. Very happy to see so many people saving money on their overpriced phone bills and some folks are saving serious money.

I took advantage of This deal yesterday. Called and talked to a Rep she said no problem. So I saved about $30.00 per month and I have a new Droid x on the way. I've heard a lot of good things about the x. I have the original Droid 1 good phone no problems. I was thinking the Droid x or the Samsung and decided on the x. Thanks for this info it led me to a new x and saved me some money. I was a year and three months in to my contract.

I finally got all 5 of my lines fixed and the 3 new phones came in today. If you've signed up for this with the family plan, I suggest signing into your account online and double checking that all of your lines has the $20 discount showing under promotions. It's not changed over until they all show this discount under promotions. It took me 3 days and 4 phone calls to get it all straightened out.

Did you activate the new phones by calling in or ota? Did the discounts show up automatically? My new phones arrive tomorrow.

What did they tell you no? Or do you work at the call center and getting mad because you actually have to do your job and answer phones?

Funny how one person is upset because we are able to save a little money on our bill. And believe me VZW are still making bank even if every single person in the world was on this plan.

So what's your problem?

I don't have a problem actually. I was trying to correct alot of misinformation on this huge post.

By all means, you seem to know EVERYTHING so I will not post any more and we'll defer to your expertise. Again, this is a marketing test promotion which means it goes out to a select group of people. Apparently your grasp of the English language is tenuous at best.

But hey, everyone can keep posting what they think is true and what their mom's cousin's brother who had an illegitimate kid with their second cousin tells them.

I was trying to clear up a few things and let you know that YES, they can see every offer sent to you. Again, I know why reps are doing it. I am not going to tell you.

Again, I will not post any more. Apparently you seem to know everything.

I tried to do the OTA but it wouldn't work. I had to call in to get them activated.

I called Monday about the plan and it showed up on the main line within 5 minutes, the other 4 lines it didn't. Plus on the 3 lines that didn't have a data plan stayed with the per mb charge. So tuesday night I called and the regular phone number couldn't fix it. So the p hones arrived at 11am this morning, so I called the 877 # and the girl I spoke to said it would change when I activated the new phones. I asked her if there was any way to go ahead and have the data package active and the discount so I could see it applied before I activated the new phones. She went ahead and added the data packages, but the $20 discount still didn't show. So I called the regular # for another issue, and asked about it and she said it was showing up on her computer, so I logged out and back in and there it was.

I know I was probably overly cautious about the discount being applied but with 5 lines with data, I wasn't going to chance having a $300+ phone bill.

Me too, they never asked were I got it, and I got it on the first call. I've been a loyal customer for years and don't see a problem with getting a good deal for a change.

So I just called the number and the rep told me that my account was not on the email list so he couldn't give me the offer. I guess I'll just try again tomorrow.

Just for the record, it took me two tries to get it, but I was honest with them and the reps were very friendly and very helpful. On the first call they told me it was not available in my area, I questioned why and asked for a supervisor. I was put on hold and when she returned she told me that they could do it, and that I would lose my 5 Friends and Family numbers and I would only save 10 bucks a month and have less minutes. I came back to this thread, and I saw numerous posts where peeps were allowed to keep their Friends and Family numbers. I called back a second time, and told them I had already called, and what was said in the first call, and I told them I saw the promotion online and that people had posted online that they were able to keep their Friends and Family numbers with the plan. I even read the info in the OP to the rep. She did not ask where it was posted, she did not ask what website it was on, she put me on hold and when she came back she told me it was good to go and I would save 30 bucks a month. Simple as that, I had no need to lie or be dishonest about it to save a few bucks. I simply questioned why it wasn't available to everyone and not just "a select few". I don't know if they were supposed to sell it to me or not, but they did, and everyone who calls hears "your call may be monitored or recorded to assure quality service". Verizon may be high priced, but their service and their coverage compared to the competition is second to none. Just my humble two cents worth. :)

I read about this new promo yesterday here and looked at what I was paying on my plan and what I could save. Told the wife about it. She called the 877# this morning. Told them about the promotion she saw and what it was about, the lady told her no problem and in about 10 min she was done. Starting next billing cycle we'll be paying about $70 less a month for 3 phones.dancedroid

I have a smartphone(DROID) & my GF just has a regular phone(LG CHOCOLATE) for right now. Her phone doesn't require a data plan. Were currently on the 700 NW TALK & TEXT FS PLAN. I currently pay $90 amonth for the minutes, $29.99 for my data & $9.99 for her line. With taxes and everything, I pay $151 a month.

I called the rep about the 1400min $139 plan, she had no problem doing it, she actually encouraged it! The thing is, we were talking about the price, I asked if I would save money, she said it would be around $160 a month. That's $10 or more on top of what I'm already paying now? I don't know if that's correct price or she just guesstimated? I'm not trying to complain, I just need to know for sure how much its going to be a month. If it's going to stay at $151-155, where I'm at now, I'll switch to the new plan, but if not is it still worth it? I'm trying to save money, not spend an extra $10-15 a month.

So I'm guessing the only way I would benefit from this plan is if my girlfriend got a smartphone, I wouldn't have to pay for her data plan? Yet again, the rep said I'd be getting 700 extra minutes, 10 family/friends and unlimited data for both phones so why not do it? Even if my GF doesn't have a smartphone yet, down the road the rep said this plan would be useful. I would just have to pay "$10" extra on my bill.

I got on this plan Tuesday. No questions asked, and i heard about it from this thread.

My best guess on this oddly handled offer: they are recording your reaction to your new awesome savings for use in advertising. The girl really seemed "excited" for my savings and also appeared to force reactions from me.

I could be way off on this theory, as my phone addiction has led to underdeveloped social skills and a growing case of paranoia.

Don't want to rain on everyone's parade, but keep in mind that after a year, the deal is supposed to go away. I did some arm twisting and got it, while taking advantage of the Droid 2 BOGO and cashing in my NE2. But come next November, unless competition changes things, I'll be either forking out another $50/mo or have to trim my data plans back to $15 (if still available) and texting back to the $5 deal.
I worked for Big Red - once you are on a plan (they're always called promotional pricing - even on the current Nationwide/Nationwide Select - they are called promotional plans). You are not going to lose it in a year or it would be a breach of contract. Please be sure what you're telling others before you post inaccurate information about this.

I hope you are right. However, in my discussion with the rep who put me on the plan, we talked about going back to the $15 data plan when this promotion expiresin a year. From Fierce Wireless, I read:

Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) has sent a promotional offer to current customers that would provide unlimited data and messaging for $69.99 per month, a move that gives Verizon subscribers a plan that is remarkably similar to Sprint Nextel's (NYSE:S) Everything Data plan.

According to Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney, the new offer is not an official rate plan. She said that Verizon has started an email and direct mail campaign where certain customers are provided an opportunity to receive a $20 credit on their smartphone bill, meaning they end up paying $69.99 for their total bill.

And that's the way the charges break down on my bill. It's the $119.99 1400 minute Talk and Text plan, plus $30 for each line's data package with a $20 discount on each data package. If it was a PLAN, they would just show the rates. It's not a PLAN, it's a PROMOTION and the discount will go away in a year. That was my understanding going in to the deal, that's what I discussed with the rep when I signed up, that's what I read in other posts, but unfortunately I don't have a cousin Guido who knows a guy who worked for Big Red and is sure about every promotion they offer.I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Read Butthead007's replies earlier, they are 100% in the loop on the details. Every VZW plan, whether it was the old America's Choice, Nationwide, Select plans, Nationwide Unlimited, they've always been called "promotional", but once you have the plan, it's yours to keep until you change to another plan. It has nothing to do with you losing the plan at VZW's discretion. And, what you just replied with, nowhere in there did it say you'd lose the new promotion after a year. Trust me on this one.

re:

The Verizon Rep I spoke with told me very explicitly that Verizon Wireless was testing this new rate plan with the idea to possibly offer it permanently...after a one year trial period...

In any case, I feel pretty lucky. I've had my Droid 1 for a little under a year. I hit the one year mark on November 15th. I was genuinely confused about whether I was eligible for the promotion, told the rep I did not receive an e-mail, but saw it on a phone forum website, and she still offered it to me. I did not get friends and family, but all in all, I was able to get nearly $30 dollars shaved off my monthly bill. I was also lucky enough to get the Droid Pro for $129.00! I simply asked the Verizon rep if she could possibly sell me the phone at the two year price. She says, "Let me check" and puts me on hold. When she came back online she tells me, "Yes. The 2-year price is $279.00. We can give you an instant $50 off the phone + a $100 dollar mail in rebate, which brings the price down to $129.00. And, you don't have to pay anything right now. We'll simply add the charges onto your next monthly phone bill." Needless to say I was pumped! Oh, incidentally, she pre-ordered the phone for me the day before pre-orders officially began. Also, I don't know how it works for some of you all. However, the rep also told me this one year 'trial' does not extend my initial 2-year contract to a third year. Rather, the second year of my old plan simply converts to this new rate plan. Soooo, according to the Verizon Rep, I will still be eligible to buy another new phone a year from now, if I so choose. I didn't read all the posts here, but from what I did read, it sounds like it was simply random as to what kind of response people get/got when they called.

I used to be on a older plan for 700 mins for 59.99 a month that was a promotional as well, it ended and for several years I kept that plan. The same with this one, its promotional, it DOES NOT expire or go away once you have it, its yours forever or until you change plans. This was confirmed as well talking to the rep when I changed my plan over to the new one.
