I think I have these numbers correct:

old plan:
$110/1400 minutes
$40-4 additional lines ($10x4)
$120-4 data plans ($30x4)
$25-unlimited text
$295/mth total

New plan:
$140/1400 minutes/2 phones
$60-3 phones data/voice
$200/mth total

Savings: $95/month woohoo

I can't take advantage of this until Jan 1 2011......... I signed up for my acct with VZW through letstalk.com.. If I change my plan they lose their commissions.. IF they lose their commissions they charge me FULL PRICE for the phones! :( I hope this deal is still around.

I used to be on a older plan for 700 mins for 59.99 a month that was a promotional as well, it ended and for several years I kept that plan. The same with this one, its promotional, it DOES NOT expire or go away once you have it, its yours forever or until you change plans. This was confirmed as well talking to the rep when I changed my plan over to the new one.

It's odd now at this point of the thread that people hare bringing up the length of the offered plan. I've been with Verizon got almost 10 years. Even plans that were no longer offered were always grandfathered.

Verizon is a phone company, not a bank where they draw you in at a low interest rate and then jack the price up on you later. I believe every person who said a rep told them it was "for a year," or "temporary" did tell you that because that is the best information they have available at this time And I think some of them pull it out of their behinds to cover said area of the human anatomy. (That's called keeping it family friendly);)

It just makes sense that you have to be competitive price wise and they are in competition with Sprint on this and I believe others will follow as well.

Everyone a few months ago was predicting the demise of free data. That was not only erroneous, quite the contrary we are getting better deals then ever. I suspect prices will come down even more in the future.

Yea its strange bringing up the whole temporary or for a year deal, I wonder if the confusion is that reps are stating that this is temporary or for a year meaning that its Temporary that we are offering this and its only for a year meaning year extension and then interpreted wrong? Either way its a great deal if you can get on it and then its yours forever after that.

It's not a PLAN, it's a PROMOTION and the discount will go away in a year. That was my understanding going in to the deal, that's what I discussed with the rep when I signed up...
The Verizon Rep I spoke with told me very explicitly that Verizon Wireless was testing this new rate plan with the idea to possibly offer it permanently...after a one year trial period...

In any case, I feel pretty lucky. I've had my Droid 1 for a little under a year. I hit the one year mark on November 15th. I was genuinely confused about whether I was eligible for the promotion, told the rep I did not receive an e-mail, but saw it on a phone forum website, and she still offered it to me. I did not get friends and family, but all in all, I was able to get nearly $30 dollars shaved off my monthly bill. I was also lucky enough to get the Droid Pro for $129.00! I simply asked the Verizon rep if she could possibly sell me the phone at the two year price. She says, "Let me check" and puts me on hold. When she came back online she tells me, "Yes. The 2-year price is $279.00. We can give you an instant $50 off the phone + a $100 dollar mail in rebate, which brings the price down to $129.00. And, you don't have to pay anything right now. We'll simply add the charges onto your next monthly phone bill." Needless to say I was pumped! Oh, incidentally, she pre-ordered the phone for me the day before pre-orders officially began. Also, I don't know how it works for some of you all. However, the rep also told me this one year 'trial' does not extend my initial 2-year contract to a third year. Rather, the second year of my old plan simply converts to this new rate plan. Soooo, according to the Verizon Rep, I will still be eligible to buy another new phone a year from now, if I so choose. I didn't read all the posts here, but from what I did read, it sounds like it was simply random as to what kind of response people get/got when they called.

im currently on a 1 year contract, 700 minute family plan (2 phones). my contract is up on 2/11. if i switch to the $139 family plan, your saying my contract wouldnt extend a extra year?

This will extend your contract by one year as of the day you take this deal. But it will not affect your new every 2. My Wife's number was not under contract but now it is for one year as of yesterday. My phone number had more than one year left under contract so my number is unchanged for contract purposes.

Does anyone know the "cut off" date for trial period.. it's looking like a yr from now.. but what day did they officially start offering this??

For those of you lucky enough to be able to take advantage of this screaming deal. Do you have to put the data plan on all your phones, or can you still pay the data (less the discount) on say 2 or 3 phones on a 5 phone family plan??

Thanks for any info. If that's the case, I'm going to call and see if I qualify!

I have four phones on my family plan. When I called I put data on all of them but one. I did not have to put data on all of them.

I was told if you take this new deal, all phones on the account must have the data plan. Under the old plan this was not the case, you could pick and choose which had data plans

In my case - I did not have to put data on all phones. I went and looked at my account and I have the data credit for three phones and no data on the fourth. I asked the CSR while on the phone if I had to put data on all and she said no so I didn't and its not. I think it depends on which CSR you happen to get.

My CSR said that the system wouldn't permit that. It was either all or none. I have 5 lines on my family share. I didn't want my Mom or my mother in law to have data since they only really call us in network. No real point there. but she said all or none so I said all (still coming out aheading the deal data 3 x 30 = 90 now 30) She tried to but my M-I-L's phone was so old it didn't support data and that the system wouldn't let it go through??? CSR got her supervisor to try and by pass why she was talking to me but no go. She needs a new phone any how. Hers has to be one step above analog.

All lines or none was what I was told as well.

After all is said and done, after I made the switch and with my employer discount. My bill will be about the same as it was with two Droids. Now I can add two more smartphones at no additional cost to me on the data side of it.

i literally just went and checked & I only have data on three phones. My husband does not want data (says a phone is for calling & talking) so his does not have data. I can't explain it. Just know what I have.

Ok, in an earlier post, I saw that someone was talking about using Friends and Family on the 450 minute plan and having to call in to get it added.

Is that free? I may have missed an earlier deal with F&F, but I thought you had to have 700 minutes. I'd love to get it added to my current plan (i got in on this deal as well.)

They told my girlfriend it was a RUMOR in a BLOG and there is no such promo. :/
And that was from the supervisor.
