News on the release of 2.1

As far as the update goes....I'll get it when they send it.

I took the plunge and called Verizon as well... the rep told me it "should" be this week... Okay, fine, whatever. I didn't get a specific date and I didn't press for one. My local store told me that it is "delayed" and they had no further information. So, take it for what it's worth.

Was it a delivery failure? Is this all on Bitfone/HP? Or, was it planned this way, so the testers could evaluate it over the weekend, and give feedback to VZW/Moto, so they could evaluate it, and then announce the release date?

Inside information was leaked that probably shouldn't have been, and that set off the firestorm of anticipation, and finally let down, and then customer backlash over being "screwed" by VZW, Motorola, Google, the tides, gravity, locusts, what have you...

The bottom line is: No one knows exactly what is going on. All we have is rumor, speculation, and probably outright hallucination out there. Some Verizon people say Monday-Tuesday, others say it's delayed, and still other say it will happen this week. Internet sources hint at this taking a long time to fix, industry sources really don't point at anything, except that fact that they are saying "oops".

So, right now, all we have is the definite possibility of a firm "maybe"....

Perhaps this week will give us some clarity on the situation. I don't know whether we will get the update this week, but, I'll bet by the end of the week we have some news as to what is going on. Right now, I think some news from VZW, or Moto as to what is going on would settle some people now...

Two small bits of info direct from Motorola.

2.1 will have only three screens

Test users were selected randomly.

And distribution will be randomly selected as well. Whenever they decide to actually distribute this.

Well, obviously nothing happened last night and it seems like every day it's coming "the next day." With due respect we did have a member yesterday who said that he knows someone that works in corporate at Verizon and he was told distribution starts Monday. You can accept it as fact or just ignore it which ever you choose, but please do not insult the member by flaming.

I haven't heard anything from any sources I have over hear yet. I will be checking through the day. If I hear anything credible I'll certainly let you know.

Monday would make some sense as that is the day they have announced for the Asia roll-out. Maybe, just maybe they are going to do it worldwide all from Monday?

Maybe the problem relates to the conversion of data. My understanding is that when people root from 2.0.1 into 2.1, they have to wipe data. That wouldn't be acceptable in a stock upgrade. You can only imagine how many applications would need to have data converted and how complicated it might be to ensure that ALL of the data from ALL of the market applications are handled properly.

Remember last month when there was that facebook post from verizon that said it was coming out? Maybe he heard his boss wrong and instead thought it was coming a month before it really was. Does anyone remember the day that was? Maybe that's the day its coming out this month.

Not to mention all of the user's records kept on the phone and the user's preferences.

I care about the update even though I'm rooted; unlike the other 1,000 people who want to rub it in others' faces. :(. The 2.1 update is what's holding back Flash, right? So when we get the update, maybe Adobe will decide it's time to release Flash to us Droid-ers. One can only hope. That's the only reason I'm anxious for this update.

The Nexus is running 2.1 and they do not have Flash. If they did, you being rooted, would most likely have it too. The last I heard 2.1 is needed for Flash to work. Adobe is in charge of Flash. I don't know if this means we'll get an Adobe plugin so the browsers can make use of flash or maybe it will be a stand alone thing. That might be better. When I visit a website with a Youtube link with the Dolphin browser it asks me if I want to download it or open it in the YouTube widget. Maybe there will be a flash widget. This would mean all those flash pop-up ads won't be a bother to us and we'd never have to see them.

I have dam near read every page on this thread and the one saying roll out was to start earlier last week. The thing that amazes me the most is that someone will specualte something. Then, that speculation turns into rumor. Then, that rumor somehow turns into fact. I'm just as heated as the next person. This situation reminds me of Charlie Brown trying to kick the football when Lucy pulls it away everytime. It's to the point now where it's laughable.

If everyone would just chill out, these threads COULD be more informative. some folks get mad at others because this one or that one hasn't read through HUNDREDS of pages of posts and ask a question that was answered on pg. #xx. I've seen articles linked THIS week (as if they were new) from week before last. I have no idea at this point who or5 what messed up. all I know is someone or something did. It would really be cool if we let the people that have REAL contacts keep us informed as time passes.

If we could just accept that it's delayed, we would all be alot better off. I know the mods would be. I'm pissed too. However, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. Hope veryone has a really good day and week. Peace.

Another interesting quote from Moto.

Motorola Europe ... the update is certainly not postponed indefinitely for Germany, or any other place in Europe.... it will start to roll as we have stated in the coming weeks, and as each country/network rolls we will let you know....

No mention of the Droid roll-out though...

The comments about the Milestone though are really not related to the Droid which is the subject of this thread. So just to stay on topic, and I hope you don't take offense tehpriest, let's keep the talk on this thread strictly related to the Motorola Droid and 2.1 update.:)

No offence an I hope the same from yourself when I point out the title of the tread being " News on the release of 2.1" Not "News on the Droid 2.1 release"

Touche' my friend. Still I think Miami set this up with the intention of talking about the Moto Droid.
