News on the release of 2.1

Could this delay possibly also have to do with the fact that google released a new version of the maps and the 2.1 update had an older version in it?

No. A lot of the code has been updated since ESE53. They aren't going to go back to the drawing board every time a revision is made.

At this rate when the update does get released we probably will not believe it. They tell us it will be released; we huddle around the computer with our phones in our hands and it gets delayed. This been going on for the past 2 months. They will announce that it is gonna be released on date such and such; we will not believe it and that is when it will be sent out.

I mean could us having a updated version of maps create some sort of conflicts with the 2.1 update since it seems like motorola put it in the update

Motorola put Gmaps 4.0 in ESE53. The only reason it would be a showstopper is if 4.0 cannot be upgraded. Now, that said, the leaked ESE53 does have that problem, but so did the leaked ERE25. I feel its probably due to some debug code in the ROM or something of the sort. I wouldn't expect that to make it all the way to OTA and then be found out to be a problem.

When I updated my maps to 4.1 I was on ese53 and didn't have any problems, it went smoothly.

Not for me or several others. Of course, we all know how these things go, its always one of those YMMV things :)

I dont know if im the only one to see this or something but here VZW is telling a user "NO DELAY-- starting with select test group first to avoid problems on upcoming rollout. More to come, stay tuned." And that was about 15 hours ago Verizon Wireless (VZWNetwork) on Twitter

There is a delay. I think the Verizon guy on Twitter may not have his facts straight.

Then again maybe I don't have mine either. I don't know who to believe.
