i dont think anyone even gave a flying flip about the dare. the droid, nexus one, and the iphone 3GS(sorry to bring up that dispicable thing) are more than any phones have even been. these phones are in a class of there own the dare never really needed a update. android is so complex that the developers can accually do something with it. the nexus one will never take the spot light even though thats Google's prized phone. droids says what on the back oh yeah Google. so im sure we will all get updates for along time until the hardware out of date that may be a while.

I'm actually confused as to what Flash will even allow you to do? Play flash games online? Watching streaming video from non youtube? Or does no one know for sure?

I'm surprised at all the people worried about losing root. why would you not be able to root your phones again? 2.1 code has been out for a long time now (it was ripped a while back before official release) and it's officially been out for some time now both in phone and in source code.
Don't they have the nexus ones already rooted? That's on 2.1 so unless moto plugged that particular hole in the code, I don't see any reason to worry. just install and reroot, right? I'm not a programmer so perhaps it's more difficult then that without knowing what moto has done, but it just seems like if the N1 is running 2.1 and is rooted.... why are we worried?

The Droid just came out... The Dare was their flagship phone. You don't remember the marketing blitz for it? Sure its not in the same league as the Droid, but it WAS their flagship phone. Just as the original Chocolate was. Both were abandoned in less than a year. Hopefully the Droid doesn't follow suit. I'm just saying nothing is for certain.

Afterwards, if you want something it didn't do, then you load an APK, or root and load a rom.

Basically I call.
They are giving us 2.1 update 1 with stuff they had ironed out issues with, and we might get it later.
That said though, I could see how they might want to keep specific features (yo yhr general public, that large group of inadequate lemmings who wouldn't KNOW how to root, let alone how to install an APK or gain knowledge here) to the N1 and not add it to the Droid.
What I look for is an OS optimization, internal tweaks that may allow it to run quicker, and with less FC's. Time will tell, but the 2.1 ported stuff might run better after this update. At least I hope so. They could all become FC monsters as well.

me too, it drives me bonkers. There are other bugs too.
It wont auto switch the audio if I plug in a headset,
When i get a call it wants me to unlock the phone first
get duplicate text msgs
seems slower when not overclocking
I have been using 2.0.3 from sholes
5 Screens and Multitouch Browser... that's all I really need.
As far as how long we will get updates - who cares? I had a blackberry for years without an update.
After a period of time you have everything you need. Just like any computer. I'm using windows xp and don't plan on upgrading it ever.
