Well, unlike most, I see this as good news.
I guess I'm a virgin to smartphones being that this is my 1st one but I've never gotten ANY updates on ANY other phone. Now I'm about to receive my 2nd update on the Droid. Life's back to normal for me, I mean after it was flipped upside down in an alternate universe yesterday when the Colts lost...
But I'm happy again :icon_ banana:

I'm a virgin too. About to buy my first smartphone and have chosen the Droid. Should I wait until the 2.1 update has been out for some period so it is already installed on my phone. Any advantages to the timing? Thanks...

SOOOOOOOOO FUUUUNNNNNNNNYYYYYY!!!!!

I have been on this forum since early DEC and watched all these people get excited about 2.1, now it is getting ready to come out and the same people that were excited about 2.1 are already B*tching and moaning about something that hasnt even happened yet!

The idea that it will be a deal breaker if it doesnt get this or that is just ludicrous!! I wonder how you deal with other things in your lives!! Are you that spoiled of bratz that if your "mini super computer in your pocket" doesnt get moving wallpaper your done with it????

Remember there was a time when you had to write on paper and wait for the mail man to drop it off and then wait a week for a reply!!

God some times this "I goota have it now" generation pisses me off!!!

RIGHT ON! These silly pricks are really beginning to piss me off.

No don't wait. The learning curve for the Droid takes a few days. Get it now so you can learn the ins and outs. You won't be disappointed. This is especially true since this is your first smartphone. It took me a while to get used to the DROID after using Windows Mobile products. The DROID is 10 times the phone than any other OS.

I hope so that is the only reason I rooted and flashed bugless beauty (5 screens) so if it only comes with three ill be bummed but im sure it will get fixed.

Cool, hope the 2.1 is all that it is supposed to be. If so I will go back to stock, if I can root it again, over clock and get the wifi tether back. I am sure there will be plenty of reviews as soon as it is pushed. And I am sure root and all the good stuff will roll over to the 2.1.

I'm rooted, I plan to unroot and go to 2.1.

How many times has someone mentioned that the droid has only been out for 3 months in this thread alone? Crazy to think the company that put out a phone ONLY 3 months ago is being ripped on for not getting updates out sooner. Remember, 3 months old?

If a year had gone by before we got an update, I would be pissed. But wait, we got an update in the first month for bug fixes. Two months later we are getting the new version, what the hell is wrong with you people?

Jeez. If you want to complain about software/hardware support go get a Blackberry.

No one would be *****ing if we didn't all feel like the red headed step-child in light of the release of the N1.

I'm impressed by motorola. They showed with this announcement that they listen to us even when they can't officially comment about release dates. If you were an apple consumer you know they would never apologize for anything, much less something they weren't obligated to give you for free.

I find it hard to believe that there's not ANYONE out there that has seen what's in the official release of 2.1 for the DROID. I'm really surprised how tightly they are able to keep this sort of stuff under wraps. You'd think they would have to be at least informing VZW employees by now (for support purposes).

Hard to believe it's that big of a secret.

No need to wait. The update will be pushed to your phone, it's completely painless. Buy it when you are ready and enjoy. :)

I, personally, disagree. People can and will, complain to complain.

Our world is built around NOW; give me what I want right now or I'm going to be angry. It's what we know. The time of 'patience is a virtue' is long gone.

I too have been awaiting the release, but am I going to throw a temper tantrum that a phone that's only three months old is taking a bit of time to get it's second update? Nope.

stupid question time...

Will the widgets and apps I have installed work with the update or will they need to be updated as well?

...usually i am able to find answers without asking - but not this time.

Thanks
