all this talk about the nexus one is ridiculous. just cause your crying about not getting what you want in an update does not mean just switch phones. you bought a droid and you should be happy with what you have. (not talking to anyone in particular just saying for every one having second thoughts)

I realize you weren't aiming that statement at anyone in particular, but just for the record, I'm not upset in the least about the Nexus One in any way. Just attempting a little comic relief, assisted by some classic literature. ;)
actually i was not aiming it at you at all im just putting a point out to the people that are saying. i hope i did not offend you and if i did im sorry.

No offense taken at all. :)

We'll see more updates

I'm saying once it hits Verizon, which it will... 2.2 or whatever they jump to wont be far off I bet. Will the Droid get that update? I doubt it.

Support is a big deal to companies. And most people are locked in to a 2 year contract. So, they're in no position to make you get a new phone.

Do you think Motorola wants to train their techs to support 2.0.1, 2.1, 2.1-Update1 and 2.2?

If they can, and the hardware supports it, they would much rather have all the existing phones get upgraded, so they are all at the same version.

Support is insanely expensive. If it wasn't, we wouldn't all be calling India every time we call for tech support somewhere.

Thanks CK for roping it in. I like a little dirt on my boots once in awhile, but the Sheriff's will always retore law! ROM vs. Legit is a good discussion for the Hacks section.

Those of us who may have fire employees for for hacking their company provided Droids will be happy to wait to see what 2.1 may offer.

Does anyone have inside info as to whether or not this update will include the 5 home screens and live wallpaper? I don't mean rumors from websites, but actual inside info?

I knew this was gonna happen. 2.1 I'll put money on it will be the last update the Droid gets. The N1 is their prize phone and the Droid is faded. This pretty evident by the lack of even all the 2.1 features.

First off, you're taking a rumor from Engadget as truth about 2.1? Really?

Second, while the N1 might be Google's prize phone, you're missing a big chunk on how this Android thing works.

Google updates/changes the OS, adds features, fixes bugs. Then they release it to the public, for free. At that point it is up to the MANUFACTURERS of Android smart phones to port this to their hardware. Google is the first step, it is up to MOTO to keep giving us updates. If Google stopped updating the SDK and OS, then it would screw over EVERY manuf. that uses the Android OS, not just Droid users.

This is exactly why everyone needs to calm down, the nexus one will not change the fact that the moto droid will keep getting android updates.... verizon also spent millions on one of the biggest ( i think it was the biggest) advertising campaign in history for the moto droid so I doubt they would drop updates for it and piss off everyone they spent hard money to win over.
On a side note, Meshuggah is awesome

Funny just this morning I was thinking about rooting to overclock but then decided to wait some more hoping the update comes soon. And here is comes..... :)

I'm a happy, sholes 2.0.3 running, Droid owner. I love my Droid and would probably love the N1 too. There both great phones, with tons of potential. I personally like the look and feel of the Droid over the N1 either way. Why are we even arguing about such a stupid subject anyway? Android is hands down the best OS on the mobile market. We should be happy we are even getting updates this quick.

I am in the same boat. I debated about it all weekend, and decided that I would use the Sholes app to get the additional features I wanted tonight after work. And then I get home from work tonight, log in to DF, and discover that 2.1 will be here this week. :icon_eek: So I am playing the waiting game again and I am comfortable with that.

hmmmm... with all these features being left out (live wallpapers, the awesome 3-d app launcher, etc.) this should be version 2.½

Anybody ever consider that the reason for features being left out could be to get something out *fast* to all the people clamoring for an update RIGHT NOW!?

how do you know it will be left out?

There was an earlier story reported by engadget that said that live wallpapers and the new launcher weren't included in what their source had access to.

Motorola Droid's next update to be Android 2.1, includes multitouch browser -- Engadget

That having been said, it was possible that what their source was actually using was kind of half-way there since the home app and launcher were reported to be the problematic apps on the N1.

One thing is for sure, if the 2.1 update for the Droid doesn't include the live wallpapers or the new app launcher it will take about 2 seconds for a ROM to come out with the N1 versions grafted on top.

Also, please consider that the items being left out (if in fact there are any... WE HAVE NO PROOF) could be due to issue's that those features caused during testing and development. I am going to have to believe that Motorola has done the background work, and is giving us everything that they can in the DROID developed 2.1 at this time.

Everyone play nice.... opinions are like a*******, everyone has one!!!
