Agreed. There's really so little in this update (at least what they're announcing) that it really isn't worth of a .1 update.

Google Goggles - it's just an app that can be downloaded separately
Google Maps - same thing
Voice Recognition - we already had some of this
Pinch-to-zoom - maps already has it, I guess some will like it for the browser
3D Gallery - big whoop, can already download it as a separate APK

I just don't see all that much in here...

a completely reworked framework and kernel? for increased speed/stability?

I didn't see that mentioned.

was just a guess... we'll see

It IS a new kernel, which would potentially increase speed/stability. Could also just as likely decrease it. I have a feeling they left out a lot of 2.1 stuff because it wasn't "speedy/stable". So the update WE get should be pretty streamlined. Seems like they just left out what didn't work right.

Well since its 2.1 and they have the 2.1 rom already from the nexus they can probably port some of the things our 2.1 update has so that the 2.1 rom from nexus one will be stable and will be able to do landscape! and integrate other great things from Nexus thats what im thinking. What do you guys think? Hope for the people who are getting mad about this update lol.

At least with this new 2.1 coming from Motorola, this 2.1 will be optimized for the Droid and will run faster then the ROM from N1.

I'm starting to think that we are getting the full 2.1 update, the cool features that we aren't getting are features that other manufacturers implement. Like maybe Moto. just sucks, the HTC eris already has more screens, so.... seriously I think we're getting everything "2.1" has, its just motorola's Devs suck.
Maybe google's not cheating us... its just Moto failing

Yea so we can port the home that nexus uses and be able to modify it to be stable and be faster, maybe port the live wallpaper for the ones wanting it. I wish i knew more about android and mess with the coding and modify it lol.

Re-rooted after seeing the change log from Moto. Pretty dissapointing, I basically have everything it includes with the BB rom and I lose root access if I update. I'll wait until a dev gets their hands on it.

I wonder if this is how it will be from now on with regards to the N1 and Droid. The N1 get's the "premium" version of the OS which includes the new home button, extra screens, live wallpapers, and roldex app menu. The Droid gets most of the enhancements but not the flashiest so that Google can differentiate "their" phone from the others, even though the Droid could run those enhancements as well. This disappoints me, but I can't say I'm completely surprised because it seems that to the average consumer (not the folks that are on this board) it's those flashy UI that peak there interest and if Google let's all Android phones have them, there's little reason to buy a phone from Google. Just my $0.02.

I posted this in another thread and I thought people might be interested in seeing it here in this thread. Full credit goes to member pilotcharles747 for finding this at Android Central:

Voice recognition for virtual keyboard. Anywhere you can type, you can dictate. Swipe your finger across the keyboard (or press the microphone button) to activate. Same as on the Nexus One.
Virtual (on-screen) keyboard enhancements.
3D Gallery: Should be the same as the new gallery that's on the Nexus One, and that's been ported to the Droid.
Pinch to zoom: Already on board for Google Maps, now you'll have it in the browser and gallery.
News and weather widget/app. That's the widget from the Nexus One that we get questions about in our videos.
Previously published Google Maps 4.0 improvements.
Enhanced Music application. New tabs at the top for easier access an navigation to artists, songs, albums and playlists.
Google Goggles: Now built into Android 2.1. No separate downloads.
Fixes the security lock bypass.
Yahoo e-mail now has setup optimization.
Battery life improved.

Notice it says improved battery life. That's what they said on the last update. It will be interesting to see how this works out.

What happened to the live wallpaper and the 5 home screens?

it's on Motorola, not Google here... Google has open-source'd all of Android, including the "flashy 2.1" changes... Moto just wants to keep their phones as stable/fast as possible. i'm fine with it. Custom ROM devs can hack 2.1 to add whatever you want (live wallpapers, 3d app drawer, etc)

ya hes right ...lets burn moto down... burn the ***** to ground :icon_ devil: any body got a light :icon_ devil: .......................................................................................jk

What this update seems is that they just ported Milestones apps and features to the Droid and called it 2.1. Which is very lame because it took them so long for them to do that crap, i bet that the Milestones 2.1 update will have better crap then our update.

NO 5 screens? NO new app drawer? Man if not this update bites.

Again Live wallpapers I could live without. But those other two? Not getting those is inexcusable. We know it works, people ported the 2.1 launcher. It was a bit buggy sure but Moto can't fix that?

Major downer.
